Poland Launches ‘Shield-East’ to Fortify Border with Belarus and Russia

SECURITYPoland Launches 'Shield-East' to Fortify Border with Belarus and Russia

The “Shield-East” project on the border with Belarus and Russia will include fortifications, shelters, and infrastructure that will restore a sense of security and normalcy to residents, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced. He assured that no one with hostile intentions would penetrate Poland’s eastern border.

“We are starting a major project to build a secure border, including a system of fortifications, as well as shaping the terrain and making environmental decisions that will make this border impassable for a potential enemy. We have already allocated 10 billion zlotys for this. These works have begun. This way, the Polish border will be secure in times of peace and impenetrable for the enemy in times of war,” the Prime Minister said.

Speaking about the “Shield-East”, Tusk reminded that it concerns 400 km of the border with Belarus and Russia. “These will include fortifications, shelters, and infrastructure that will also restore a sense of security and normalcy to the people living there. This will include everything, from afforestation to waterlogged areas where necessary,” the head of government said.

“We are doing this to deter the enemy, so that all those who wish ill upon Poland, who plan attacks or aggression against our allies or our country, will hear today from Krakow’s Market Square: Stay away from Poland, Poland is strong, Poland will be safe thanks to its own actions and alliances,” Donald Tusk emphasized.
