In May 2024, the turnover of shares on the GPW Main Market reached 32.8 billion PLN, marking a 48.1% increase compared to May of the previous year. The average daily turnover of shares on the Warsaw Stock Exchange also rose, amounting to 1.64 billion PLN, a 55.5% increase year-on-year. The broad market index WIG gained over 10% in the first five months of this year.

Stock Market

May was a successful month on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The total turnover of shares on the GPW Main Market reached 32.9 billion PLN, representing a 46.4% increase compared to the same period last year. The turnover value of shares within the order book rose by 48.1% year-on-year, reaching 32.8 billion PLN. The average daily turnover value of shares within the order book was 1.64 billion PLN, marking a 55.5% increase compared to the previous year. At the end of May, the WIG index stood at 86,315.26 points, having increased by 10.01% this year.

In contrast to the GPW Main Market, NewConnect experienced declines. The total turnover value of shares in May was 128.9 million PLN, a decrease of 30.3% compared to the same period last year. The turnover value of shares within the order book on the NewConnect market fell by 30.4% year-on-year, to 127.8 million PLN.

Turnover on the GlobalConnect market increased, with the turnover value of shares reaching 0.9 million PLN in May 2024, an 83% increase compared to 0.5 million PLN in the same period last year.

Derivatives Market

In May 2024, the total volume of derivatives traded was 0.8 million contracts, a decrease of 17.4% compared to May 2023. Turnover of index futures decreased by 18.2% year-on-year, to 519.1 thousand contracts. The volume of currency futures trading fell by 38.6% year-on-year, to 161.8 thousand contracts. However, trading in single-stock futures saw a significant increase of 63.1% year-on-year, reaching 144.4 thousand contracts.

Structured Products and ETFs Market

In May, the turnover value of structured products increased by 31.6% year-on-year, reaching 204.6 million PLN. Simultaneously, the total turnover value of ETFs and ETCs on the GPW rose to 83.0 million PLN, a 15.7% increase compared to May of the previous year.

Debt Instruments Market

At the end of May, the value of non-treasury bonds listed on the Catalyst market reached 112.9 billion PLN, compared to 100.9 billion PLN in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the turnover value of bonds on the Catalyst market within the order book decreased by 18.0% year-on-year, to 515.2 million PLN.

The total turnover value of bonds on Treasury BondSpot Poland was 101.4 billion PLN, representing a 111.0% increase compared to 48.1 billion PLN a year earlier.

Market Capitalization on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

The capitalization of 369 domestic companies listed on the Main Market in May 2024 was 805.7 billion PLN (188.8 billion EUR). The total capitalization of all 411 companies, both domestic and foreign, reached 1,613.2 billion PLN (378.0 billion EUR).

New Listings – New Issuers

In May 2024, shares of BRAINSCAN, a company involved in brain imaging diagnostics using artificial intelligence, debuted on the NewConnect market. The value of the offering was 5.9 million PLN.
