FINANCEZUS Paid Nearly 1.7 Billion PLN to Foreigners from the "Family 800 Plus" Program in the First Half of This Year

In the first half of 2024, benefits from the “Family 800 plus” program were paid to foreigners for 370.9 thousand children. This is 8.9% less than in the same period last year when the support was provided to 406.9 thousand young individuals. At the same time, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) reports that the sum of monies paid out this year was 1.689 billion PLN. This is, on the other hand, 60.8% more than the previous year when 1.051 billion PLN was transferred from the then “Family 500 plus” program. According to ZUS data, in the first half of this year, money was paid out for 315.4 thousand Ukrainian children (the previous year – over 362.7 thousand). In the first six months of this year, 1.438 billion PLN was allocated to them (the previous year – 927 million PLN). Next in the list, we see the children of applicants with Belarusian, Romanian, Russian, and Vietnamese citizenship.

The number of children whose parents in the application for “Family 800 plus” benefits indicated citizenship other than Polish is decreasing. According to data from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), in the first half of 2024, payments were made for exactly 370,887 foreigners. This is 8.9% less than in the same period of the previous year, when it concerned 406,906 people. At the same time, the amount of the paid childcare benefits for these children was 1.689 billion PLN. This is 60.8% more than in the same period the previous year – 1.051 billion PLN, when the “Family 500 plus” program was in operation.

“The decreasing number of children entitled to benefits is a result of the fact that some foreigners who once came to Poland have moved to other countries. Therefore, we should ask ourselves important questions. Do we want to keep some of the Eastern European emigrants in our cultural circle? Or do we agree that they will flow to richer countries that can offer them more? Often these countries have a more coherent policy towards immigrants than Poland,” says Prof. Witold Modzelewski, former Deputy Minister of Finance and ex
