US Retail Sales Rebound in December, Beating Expectations

ECONOMYUS Retail Sales Rebound in December, Beating Expectations

Retail sales (uncorrected for inflation) in the USA increased by 0.6 percent m/m in December. The previous month’s growth was 0.3 percent. The figure turned out to be better than forecasted (0.4 percent).

The December reading showed that consumer spending continues to grow. The pace of sales growth increased after two somewhat weaker months. The data points to the resilience of the economy. The labor market remains relatively strong, coupled with expectations for fast interest rates cuts, which translates into higher household spending.
