No Need to Reinstate Regular Military Draft Amid High Voluntary Service Enrollment

POLITICSNo Need to Reinstate Regular Military Draft Amid High Voluntary Service Enrollment

The Minister of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister WÅ‚adysÅ‚aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, stated in the Sejm on Wednesday that there are no reasons to reinstate the regular military draft. “Interest in military service is immense; at the moment, we have 198,000 soldiers, including over 140,000 professionals,” he informed.

“We are increasing the number of Polish army personnel by enhancing its operational capabilities. Currently, we have 198,000 soldiers, including over 140,000 professionals, and more than 20,000 individuals are being trained in voluntary basic military service units. By May of this year, 9,000 soldiers have been enlisted into professional military service,” the Defense Minister said.

He emphasized that the interest in military service is tremendous. “Therefore, there are no reasons—I want to dispel all doubts and questions here—to reinstate the regular draft. Voluntary basic military service is sufficient,” assured Kosiniak-Kamysz.

He added that training activity in the military has increased by about 40 percent, and every day, approximately 60,000 soldiers are being trained in training grounds and exercise areas. Additionally, the Defense Minister noted that 16,000 soldiers from allied forces are being trained or are stationed in Poland, and since the beginning of this year, the Polish army has participated in 250 national and international exercises.
