Mandate with QR code behind the wiper? This is a new method of fraudsters!

Cybercriminals are also actively operating in the real world. Impersonating services is nothing new, but suspicious-looking fines with QR codes are starting to appear in many cities. What is this about?MANDATE WITH QR CODE

Fine to be paid?

Suspicious flyers that mimic the penalty notice imposed by the police began to appear in southern Poland. On the note, we can see not only the logo of the services, but also the National Treasury Administration. All this is intended to increase credibility and persuade to pay for an alleged offense.

Clever way to defraud money

— After scanning the QR code, we are taken to a website where we can pay the fine. What should alert us – the site is not an official government site, the link is random, consisting of random characters. If we pay the funds, it may be difficult to recover them. Then we really will have to go to the police, but to report a suspected crime… — warns Elwira Charmuszko, cybersecurity expert.

Not just a police fine…

We also receive reports about notes appearing in the capital – here the image of the Municipal Guard of the city of Warsaw is used. The situation looks similar, because here is also information about the offense and a QR code to scan.

What to do in this situation?

First of all, let’s stay calm! If behind the windshield wiper we see information about a penalty imposed, let’s go to the nearest police station as soon as possible and clarify the matter. The police will check if there are any offenses on our account. Do not scan QR codes and do not go to unknown sites, even if the “document” looks believable at first glance.
