In January 2024, the total value of share turnover on the WSE Main Market amounted to PLN 24.0 billion, which is 14.5% less than in the same period a year earlier. The value of share turnover within the order book fell by 10.1% YoY to PLN 23.8 billion. The average daily value of share turnover within the order book amounted to PLN 1.08 billion, 14.2% less than a year earlier. The WIG index value at the end of January was 77,416.31 points, 26.3% higher than a year ago.
In the NewConnect market in January, a decline in the total value of share turnover by 33.1% YoY was noted to PLN 151.9 million. The value of share turnover within the order book on the NewConnect market fell by 33.5% YoY and amounted to PLN 150.7 million.
On the GlobalConnect market, the value of share turnover in January was PLN 1.1 million, compared to PLN 0.7 million in the same period last year.
The total volume of derivative instruments traded in January amounted to 1.1 million units, 3.3% more than a year earlier. The volume of index contracts turnover fell by 7.5% YoY to 638.9 thousand units, the volume of currency contracts turnover increased by 63.0% YoY to 321.0 thousand units, and the volume of share contracts turnover fell by 27.4% YoY to 88.1 thousand units.
In January, a decrease in the value of structured products trading by 25.3% YoY was noted to PLN 170.8 million, and a rise in the total value of ETFs and ETCs trading by 11.9% YoY to PLN 121.3 million.
The value of non-treasury bond issues listed on the Catalyst market amounted to PLN 110.1 billion at the end of January, compared to PLN 91.5 billion in the same period last year. The value of bond trading on the Catalyst market within the order book fell by 0.6% YoY to PLN 436.7 million.
The total value of bond trading on the TBSP was PLN 36.1 billion compared to PLN 23.7 billion a year earlier, indicating a growth of 52.6% YoY.
The total volume of electricity trading on the spot and forward markets amounted to 10.4 TWh in January, indicating a decrease by 16.5% YoY. The volume of electricity trading on the spot market fell by 23.5% YoY to 4.7 TWh. On the forward market, the volume fell by 9.6% YoY to 5.7 TWh.
The total volume of natural gas trading fell by 3.2% YoY to 13.4 TWh. On the spot market, trading volume increased by 79.1% to 3.4 TWh. On the forward market, a decrease by 16.2% YoY was noted to 10.1 TWh.
The trading volume of property rights resulting from certificates of origin, excluding rights from certificates related to energy efficiency (“white certificates”)[2], on the spot market was 1.2 TWh, indicating a decrease by 16.2% YoY.

The total capitalization of 413 domestic and foreign companies listed on the Main Market reached PLN 1,433.0 billion (EUR 329.9 billion).
