The Council of Ministers adopted a package of bills concerning foreigners on Wednesday, November 18, 2024. At the request of the Ministry of Development and Technology, provisions requiring mandatory employment contracts for foreign workers — heavily criticized by business owners — were removed.
This decision is seen as a positive step, preventing unnecessary burdens for entrepreneurs and foreign workers. Flexibility in employment forms is crucial for a well-functioning labor market, allowing both Polish and foreign workers to choose contracts that best fit their needs.
Yuriy Grygorenko, Chief Analyst at Gremi Personal, noted that mandatory employment contracts could paradoxically reduce income stability in cases where other contract types, such as B2B contracts or task-specific agreements, are more suitable.
Karolina Szleszyńska, Vice President for Legal Affairs at Gremi Personal, welcomed the decision, emphasizing that simplifying the employment process for foreign workers while maintaining oversight is the right approach.
The legislation still needs to pass through parliament, but the move towards simplifying procedures and streamlining foreign worker employment is widely supported.
