TSLOptimistic Employment Forecast for the TSL Sector in Poland in Q4 2024: Nearly Half of Companies Plan to Expand Their Teams

The employment forecast for the fourth quarter of 2024 for the transport, logistics & automotive sector sparks optimism – from October to the end of December, almost half of the companies in this area declare intending to expand their teams, and 32% plan to maintain their current employment structure. These data come from the most recent “ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Barometer” report, in which companies reveal their recruitment plans for the upcoming months.

The data published in the “ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Barometer” report indicate that organizations from the transport, logistics & automotive sector intend to develop their teams. The net employment forecast, serving as a labour market barometer and showing companies’ plans related to acquiring new talents, is +28%, which is the highest result out of all 8 analyzed sectors. It is a growth of 10 percentage points annually and also a percentage point compared to the third quarter of 2024. Only 2 out of 10 companies in this industry consider the possibility of layoffs.

“Employment plans data for the fourth quarter of 2024 in the Polish transport and logistics industry indicate significant changes in personnel structures. 48% of organizations declare the intention to expand their teams, which suggests optimism and sector development. It is a signal that companies expect an increase in demand for services provided, which may be the result of economic recovery, an increase in retail sales in Poland, as well as international trade and the growing need for effective supply chain management,” says Piotr Skierkowski, Sales Director at Manpower. He emphasizes that the net employment forecast at the level of +28% is the highest result among all analyzed branches of the economy, indicating the dynamic development of the transport and logistics sector. “The greatest shortage of workers can be observed in such positions as truck drivers, forklift operators, logistics specialists, and supply chain managers. High qualification requirements and the specificity of work in these professions make finding suitable candidates a significant challenge for employers,” the expert adds.

The increase in employment, particularly in areas related to logistics operations, but also automation and digitization of processes, and the tasks brought by sustainable development, create new opportunities and challenges for employers and specialists in this sector,” comments the Sales Director at Manpower. However, 20% of companies forecast layoffs, which may indicate restructuring, process automation, or the need for some cost reduction. It is worth noticing that 32% of companies do not plan any changes, which means stability in these organizations,” sums up Piotr Skierkowski.

The Green Transformation – opportunities and challenges in the TSL sector

“The transport and logistics industry has several challenges connected to, among others, sustainable development, such as reducing CO2 emissions, optimizing fuel consumption, and implementing ecological technologies. Companies are preparing for changes resulting from the green transformation by investing in electric vehicles, expanding charging infrastructure, and implementing energy management systems,” notices the Manpower expert. For specialists in ecology, environmental engineering, and sustainable development management, the green transformation offers a chance for career development.

Data collected by ManpowerGroup also refer to the recruitment plans of organizations in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. In the fourth quarter of 2024, transport, logistics & automotive sector companies from the EMEA markets declare a net employment forecast at almost the same level as Polish organizations, i.e., +26%. Recruiting new talents is intended by 42% of enterprises, 16% consider the necessity of reducing employment, and 40% of transport, logistics & automotive sector employers do not want any changes in their personnel structure. Only 2% of respondents do not know their recruitment plans for the last quarter of 2024.
