ENERGYORLEN Discovers One of the Largest Oil Deposits in Poland – Rzeczyca Resources Estimated at Over 500,000 Tons

More than 100,000 tons of crude oil are the recoverable resources of the Rzeczyca deposit, discovered by ORLEN in the Lubuskie Voivodeship. Near this discovery, the company identified additional structures that may contain further quantities of crude. The entire complex’s resource potential is estimated at over 500,000 tons of oil.

“The Rzeczyca deposit is one of the largest oil discoveries in Poland in recent decades. It is a significant success for our geologists and engineers. The commencement of production will benefit not only ORLEN but also local government units, which receive 90% of the extraction fee from oil and gas production. This means that, considering the planned production, additional revenue to the municipal budget could amount to up to a million zlotys annually,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, President of ORLEN’s Management Board.

The new oil field near Świebodzin was discovered through the Rzeczyca-1 exploratory well, drilled in the town of Grodziszcze, within the joint concession area No. 24/95/Ł. Once developed, the well is expected to produce approximately 16,500 tons of crude oil annually.

“The reservoir tests conducted at the Rzeczyca-1 well not only confirmed the presence of oil resources and their commercial extraction potential but also indicate the existence of additional, significant quantities of crude in nearby geological structures. We can thus expect further significant discoveries with a high degree of certainty. This validates the new exploratory concept we applied in this area,” said Wiesław Prugar, ORLEN’s Board Member for Upstream Operations.

Drilling of the Rzeczyca-1 well began in June of this year and lasted 63 days. The drilling work was carried out by Exalo Drilling from the ORLEN Group. The well reached a final depth of 2,750 meters.

ORLEN plans to transport the crude oil extracted from the Rzeczyca-1 well via pipeline to the nearby Radoszyn Oil and Gas Production Plant.

Most of Poland’s domestic oil production comes from deposits located in western Poland, particularly in the Lubuskie Voivodeship. This includes major production fields such as Lubiatów, Międzychód, Grotów, and the Barnówko-Mostno-Buszewo deposit. Last year, ORLEN Group’s production of crude oil, condensate, and NGLs in Poland amounted to around 824,000 tons.
