The Speaker of the Sejm has commenced an official visit to the Czech Republic. Before departing for Prague, Szymon Hołownia outlined the key objectives of the visit during a media briefing, including matters related to regional security. “This is an absolutely crucial issue. We have matters to discuss concerning media security as well as military security in a more specific sense. Poland currently holds the presidency of the Visegrad Group. A significant part of it aims to act and cooperate. I am working to ensure that our relations are consistently maintained in real-time, operational contact. I am counting on building a solid security pillar in this part of Europe,” said Speaker Hołownia. He also commented on the Czech ammunition initiative announced by President Petr Pavel. “It was a very good idea and very timely. However, at this moment, there are no new initiatives of this kind on the table. Right now, in Poland, we need our own capabilities for ammunition production. There must be ammunition factories in Poland,” he assessed.

The two-day visit includes scheduled meetings between the Speaker of the Sejm and key Czech political figures, including the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Markéta Pekarová, and the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Miloš Vystrčil. Additionally, Speaker Hołownia will participate in a panel of parliamentary leaders at the GLOBSEC Forum 2024 conference, where key security challenges will be discussed.
