In December 2023, the total value of share trading on the Warsaw Stock Exchange’s Main Market amounted to PLN 24.1 billion, which was 38.9% higher than in the equivalent period a year earlier. The value of share trading as part of the order book increased by 39.4% YoY to PLN 23.8 billion. The average daily value of shares trading under the order book was PLN 1.25 billion, 54.1% more than a year earlier. The WIG index value at the end of December was 78,459.91 points, 36.5% higher than a year ago.
On the NewConnect market in December, a decrease in the total value of share trading by 19.3% YoY to PLN 181.1 million was recorded. The value of shares traded as part of the order book on the NewConnect market fell by 21.2% YoY and amounted to PLN 170.9 million.
In the GlobalConnect market, the value of shares traded in December was PLN 2.29 million compared to PLN 0.18 million in the same period of the previous year.
The total volume of derivatives trading in December amounted to 1.7 million units, which is 3.0% more than a year earlier. The volume of index contract trading increased by 3.0% YoY to 786.2 thousand units, the volume of currency contracts trading increased by 6.8% YoY to 756.2 thousand units, and the volume of stock contracts trading decreased by 11.5% YoY to 103.7 thousand units.
In December, a 15.7% YoY decrease in the value of structured products was observed, amounted to PLN 138.5 million, along with a 51.3% YoY increase in the total value of ETF and ETC trades to PLN 116.8 million.
The value of non-treasury bond issues listed on the Catalyst market at the end of December amounted to PLN 112.3 billion, compared to PLN 92.6 billion in the same period last year. The value of bond trading on the Catalyst market as part of the order book increased by 37.6% YoY to PLN 531.8 million.
The total value of bond trading on TBSP amounted to PLN 20.3 billion compared to PLN 20.6 billion a year earlier, which means a decrease of 1.3% YoY.
The total volume of electricity turnover on spot and forward markets in December 2023 amounted to 14.5 TWh, which means an increase of 27.9% YoY. The volume of electricity trading on the spot market increased by 72.0% YoY to 5.9 TWh. On the forward market, the volume increased by 8.8% YoY to 8.6 TWh.
The total volume of natural gas turnover fell by 31.7% YoY to 12.0 TWh. On the spot market, the turnover volume fell by 29.3% to 1.9 TWh. In the futures market, a decrease of 32.2% YoY to 10.1 TWh was observed.
The volume of trading in property rights resulting from certificates of origin, excluding rights from certificates related to energy efficiency (so-called “white certificates”)[2], on the spot market amounted to 1.4 TWh, which means a decrease of 27.6% YoY.
The volume of trading in property rights resulting from certificates of origin related to energy efficiency (so-called “white certificates”) fell by 14.0% YoY to 10.2 ktoe[3].
The turnover of Guarantees of Origin for electricity generated in RES fell by 57.2% YoY, to a volume of 2.3 TWh.
The capitalization of 371 domestic companies listed on the Main Market in December 2023 was PLN 760.2 billion (EUR 174.8 billion).
The total capitalization of 413 domestic and foreign companies listed on the Main Market reached PLN 1,440.3 billion (EUR 331.3 billion).
The companies that debuted on the Main Market were: MURAPOL S.A. (offer value: PLN 363.5 million).
The companies that debuted on the NewConnect market were: QNA TECHNOLOGY S.A. (offer value: PLN 15.6 million).
In December, there were 19 trading sessions on the WSE compared to 21 sessions a year earlier.
