World’s Best Workplaces 2024 – We Know This Year’s 25 Awardees

BUSINESSWorld's Best Workplaces 2024 - We Know This Year's 25 Awardees

On November 14th, the Great Place To Work® Institute announced the 25 winners of the World’s Best Workplaces™ 2024 list. The research upon which the ranking is based involved nearly 7.5 million employees worldwide. After a year-long hiatus, DHL Express has reclaimed first place on the list (after ranking second in 2023), with Hilton settling in second place and pharmaceutical firm AbbVie taking third. The success of DHL Express and Hilton, as well as five other winners, is due in part to the great performance of their Polish branches.

It’s all about positive impact and its scale

Organisations entering the Great Place To Work competition are assessed on their efforts to create outstanding workplaces, as well as their positive impact on people and communities around the world. To be named among the top 25 World’s Best Workplaces™, companies must meet numerous rigorous criteria. To participate in the competition, they must first secure a Great Place to Work certification. Companies must also present a history of national-level competition success – demonstrated by placement on at least five national lists in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, North America or Australia. Additional requirement is the company’s global reach, indicated by employing a minimum of 5,000 workers worldwide, with at least 40% working outside the country in which the company is headquartered.

Tough competition at the top

Creating an exceptional workplace is a long process requiring significant commitment. Managers must sincerely and deeply believe in the importance of respectful, trusting relationships with employees and their influence on the company’s market position. This belief must be backed by an authentic willingness and ability to listen to employee needs and consistently create an efficiently functioning organization that meets those needs. Ninety-one percent of employees of the 25 World’s Best Workplaces™ confirmed that their employers maintain ethical and honest standards, 90% stated their pride in their work, and an equal 91% felt pride for their workplace. These statistics illustrate the positive and strong relationships that can exist in a well-functioning, stable company. Great Place To Work promotes organisations that maintain consistency in their efforts. As a result, the best must strive to be even better in order to keep their place on the list. The top ten of the ranking list consists of companies that have been participating in the competition for years, continuously confirming their status as great workplaces. This year’s list features nine new companies, demonstrating that a place on the list is never guaranteed and that competition never rests.

Poland compared to other countries: every branch counts

World’s Best Workplaces™ are international companies with branches worldwide. The achievements of local branches can have a significant impact on a company’s final ranking (the minimum requirement is a presence on five national lists, but a larger number of previously recognized branches is an additional bonus). This year, seven organizations owe their success to their Polish branches: DHL Express (1st place), Hilton (2nd place), Cisco (4th place), Hilti (5th place), Stryker (8th place), Cadence (9th place), SAP (15th place). The countries most represented on the list are the United Kingdom (20), USA (19), and India (17).

The essence of the World’s Best Workplaces ranking is more than just honoring these 25 companies for their efforts on behalf of their employees. This year, those efforts directly impact 20 million individuals – the total combined workforce of these companies. In actuality, it concerns us all because, as Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work, emphasizes, “as global companies, these employers have an incredible impact on our world.”
