According to data from the end of December 2023, there were a total of 57,065 fully electric passenger and commercial vehicles (BEV) registered in Poland. Over the course of the past year, their numbers increased by 23,651 units, which is 52% more than in 2022 – according to the Electromobility Counter, launched by PZPM and PSPA.
By the end of December 2023, there were 98,348 electric vehicles on Polish roads. The fleet of fully electric passenger cars (BEV – battery electric vehicles) amounted to 51,211 units, and the fleet of plug-in hybrids (PHEV – plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) – 47,137 units. The number of electric vans and trucks was 5,880 units. The fleet of electric mopeds and motorcycles, which totaled 19,526 units at the end of December, is continually growing, as well as the number of hybrid passenger and commercial vehicles, which increased to 679,637 units. By the end of last year, the fleet of electric buses in Poland increased to 1,179 units.
Parallel to the fleet of electric vehicles, the charging infrastructure is also developing. By the end of December 2023, there were 5,933 publicly available electric vehicle charging points in Poland (3,282 stations). 26% of them were rapid DC charging points, and 74% – slow AC points with a power of 22 kW or less. In December, 104 new points were launched.
“At the end of 2023, there were already over 57 thousand zero-emission vehicles on Polish roads. The number of registered vans, trucks and buses with electric drive, as well as plug-in hybrid personal cars, increased significantly last year. Undoubtedly, the increasing sales of electric vehicles are helped by the development of the charging network. Even though the number of charging points should be larger, the money allocated recently for the co-financing of new charging station construction will certainly have a positive effect. Customers also prefer cars with traditional hybrid drive, as their number has increased on Polish roads by nearly 40% more than a year earlier. Considering the European policy, we can be sure that the number of vehicles with internal combustion engines will be gradually decreasing. This applies especially to cars with Diesel engines.” – says Jakub Faryś, President of PZPM.
“The total number of new, publicly available charging points launched in 2023 amounted to 1,513. This is a historical record and an increase by 15% compared to 2022. However, the industry expected significantly better results. In 2024, it is key to quickly implement legislative proposals by central administration, which PSPA together with over 250 partners prepared as part of the “White Paper of New Mobility”. The document contains over 30 specific proposals for regulatory and systemic changes in areas of public infrastructure, building infrastructure and technical tests of charging stations. It is especially important to improve connection procedures. Otherwise, Poland has no chance of fulfilling the goals of new EU regulation AFIR, whose provisions will be applied already from April this year” – says Maciej Mazur, Managing Director of PSPA.
