Recently, HBO released their new documentary series “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery”, in which Canadian programmer Peter Todd was pointed out as the legendary creator of Bitcoin – Satoshi Nakamoto. However, according to the latest study conducted among the community of Binance cryptocurrency exchange users in Poland, the majority are skeptical about unequivocally identifying Satoshi’s identity.
The study results show that:
– 36% of respondents believe that Satoshi Nakamoto is not a single person, but a group of people;
– 40% pointed to “other” possibilities, suggesting uncertainty about a specific individual;
– 12% pointed to Dorian Nakamoto;
– 8% believe that Satoshi is Hal Finney;
– 4% pointed to Lena Sassaman.
Interestingly, none of the respondents pointed to Peter Todd, who himself has already denied several times that he is Satoshi. Similarly, no indications were obtained for Nick Szabo, Adam Back or Craig Wright, who in previous years were mentioned among the potential candidates for Satoshi Nakamoto.
Moreover, the study showed that most of the community (60%) believes it is better to keep the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto a secret. Only 40% of respondents would like to know the truth about the creator of Bitcoin.
Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, also notes that this is not the first attempt to establish the identity of the mysterious creator of Bitcoin. Over the years, many theories and candidates have emerged, but each of these attempts ended in a lack of conclusive evidence.
“Bitcoin is not the work of one person, but a movement driven by millions of people around the world. Every user, miner, developer and enthusiast contributes to the success of this revolutionary technology,” reads a Binance blog post about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity.
Regardless of recent speculation, Bitcoin remains the largest and most influential cryptocurrency, revolutionising the world of finance and technology. It seems though, that for most users, what matters most is the idea and technology behind Bitcoin, not the person of its creator.
