As a result of close cooperation between the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office, the Internal Security Agency, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, and the Security Service of Ukraine, a Polish citizen, Paweł K., was arrested in Poland on April 17, 2024. He was charged with expressing readiness to act on behalf of a foreign intelligence service against the Republic of Poland. The investigation revealed that Paweł K. had indicated his willingness to act for the military intelligence of the Russian Federation and had made contacts with Russian citizens directly involved in the war in Ukraine. His tasks included collecting and passing on information about the security of the Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport to the Russian military intelligence. This information was potentially to assist Russian special services in planning a possible assassination attempt on the life of a foreign state leader, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
The possibility of Paweł K. committing a crime was initially reported to the Polish Prosecutor’s Office by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Subsequently, during the investigation, key evidence in the case was obtained from the Ukrainian side as part of legal assistance.
