From their earnings, 39 percent of women who run their own business are satisfied, and only 23 percent of all surveyed Polish women – this is the result of a study conducted on behalf of the WłączeniPlus Foundation for the Sukces Pisany Szminką competition. From the responses of all those surveyed, it turns out that the most satisfactory earnings are for residents of medium-sized cities (38 percent), and the least for those living in villages (23 percent). Nearly half of female entrepreneurs admit that their income has fallen under the influence of inflation, while the percentage among all survey participants is lower (29 percent). The average monthly earnings of entrepreneurs are over 1.5 thousand PLN higher than the average Pole.
Only 28 percent of Poles are satisfied with their earnings
Almost two out of five Polish businesswomen (39 percent) say they are satisfied with the level of their earnings. Meanwhile, the percentage of these declarations among all respondents is only 28 percent – showing from the study for the Sukces Pisany Szminką competition. The report “Polki i przedsiębiorczość 2024: zarobki a inflacja”, developed based on the study conducted on behalf of the WłączeniPlus Foundation by Socjolożki.pl using a licensed panel ensuring representativeness of the sample among Polish women and men, accompanies the 16th edition of the competition. It is the oldest and largest initiative in Poland to recognize businesswomen and award good practices in the field of diversity, equality, and inclusion, the so-called DEI.
Businesswomen are more often satisfied with their earnings than men
Men are more often satisfied with their income (33 percent) than women (23 percent). The most satisfied with their income are residents of medium-sized cities (38 percent), and the least – villages (23 percent). Dissatisfaction with earnings increases in consecutive age groups – indicated by 52 percent of respondents aged 18-24, and in the group 45-54 years it’s already 69 percent.
The earnings of almost half of businesswomen have fallen due to inflation
Among all respondents participating in the survey, 29 percent admit that their earnings have fallen under the influence of inflation. In the group of businesswomen, this percentage is 48 percent. The average monthly earnings among all surveyed is 4,534 PLN net, and among respondents running their own business – 6,116 PLN net. Incomes up to 4,000 PLN net are declared by as many as 45 percent of all respondents and 18 percent of Polish women running their own business. On the other hand, above 7,000 PLN net, only every tenth Polish respondent and every fourth surveyed businesswoman earn.
Talking about money isn’t a problem for Polish businesswomen
The survey results show that 36 percent of Poles participating in the survey say they have trouble talking about money at work. This is also admitted by every third man and 39 percent of women. Among businesswomen, the lowest percentage was recorded, with only 27 percent. Nearly half (45 percent) respondents managing their own businesses state that discussions about money and negotiating salaries at work do not pose a challenge for them.
The study was conducted in September 2024 by Socjolożki.pl using the CAWI methodology using a licensed panel ensuring representativeness of the sample in terms of sex, age, size of place of residence and region on a sample of Polish women and men aged 16-65.
