Poles Plan Easter Spending: 200-300 PLN Most Common Budget

COMMERCEPoles Plan Easter Spending: 200-300 PLN Most Common Budget

This year, 17.3% of Poles plan to spend 200-300 PLN on Easter food per person. This is the most frequently indicated amount in a poll conducted by UCE RESEARCH and the Offerista Group. It is mainly stated by consumers earning 3000-4999 PLN net per month. The second position in the ranking was taken by the highest financial threshold in the study, exceeding 500PLN, announced by 13.9% of respondents. Almost the same number of people, i.e. 13.4%, are still unsure of the cost they will incur. The lowest expenditures, below 50PLN, got the least indications – only 2.3%.

The results of the UCE RESEARCH and Offerista Group survey show how much money Poles plan to spend on holiday food, including non-alcoholic beverages, per person. 17.3% of respondents declare 200-300PLN. This is the highest percentage in the study.

– This indication represents the average Polish expenditure per person at the holiday table. In my opinion, it’s neither much nor little. Everything of course depends on how many people the holidays are organized for. Also, individual attitude towards celebrating Easter is important. However, based on the above result, one can conclude that the average family of four will spend approximately 800-1200 PLN on holiday food products this year. It looked very similar last year – comments Robert Biegaj, co-author of the study and retail market expert from Offerista Group.

Analysts from UCE RESEARCH inform that this year more Poles will want to spend the aforementioned amount than last year. A few percentage points growth in consumer declarations can be observed. – In my opinion, it shows that Poles still save. This wasn’t changed by decreasing inflation. Economists say that inflation will rise again in the second half of the year. Hearing this, the average Kowalski slows down with holiday spending, because the future is uncertain. And this caution can be visible for longer as consumers need to feel more stable over a longer period of time to open their wallets wider – points out Biegaj.

The amount of 200-300 PLN is mentioned more often by men than women. This choice is primarily made by people aged 75-80 with monthly net incomes of 3000-4999 PLN and higher education. It mainly concerns residents of cities with a population ranging from 50,000 to 99,000.

– For people with such incomes, the aforementioned expenditure can be significant in the household budget. However, these may be respondents who are strongly attached to tradition and the idea of Easter itself. Therefore, for them a high cost will be justified and necessary, even if they would have to give up fulfilling other needs – explain the analysts from UCE RESEARCH.

13.9% of respondents indicate that they will spend over 500 PLN per person at the holiday table. This is the highest financial threshold in the survey and it took the second place in the ranking. Meanwhile, 13.4% of respondents still don’t know what cost they will incur. 12.5% of respondents give 150-200 zł, 10.7% – 300-400 PLN, 9.7% – 400-500 PLN, and 9.3% – 100-150 PLN.

– The percentage of people giving an amount above 500 PLN is a few percentage points higher than that recorded a year ago. This shows that a wealthier group of consumers is loosening their holiday spending this year. The 150-200 PLN range is indicated just as often as a year ago. It is below the average for a classic consumer basket. However, the financial range of 300-400 PLN has shown a slight change, which will not be noticeable for the market as a whole – states the expert from Offerista Group.

According to the authors of the study, the indicator of undecided consumers tells us that many Poles are still pondering their Easter spending. – People who are indecisive will most likely incur lower costs. This will be caused by some life uncertainty or clear difficulties, because few people want to save on Easter if they don’t have to and celebrate it. As a rule, Poles love to shop more on such an occasion, because big holidays occur only twice a year – points out Robert Biegaj.

On the other hand, the least indications have expenditures below 50 PLN – 2.3%. This is the lowest value that respondents could indicate. 2.8% declared that they will not pay anything for Easter food, because they do not celebrate holidays or they go away for that time. Meanwhile, 8.1% of respondents announced that they will incur a cost of 50-100 PLN.

– Expenditures below 50 PLN per person are rather the domain of Poles who celebrate holidays very symbolically or are on the edge of poverty. As can be seen from the results, the level is roughly the same from year to year. The 50-100 PLN range can be treated like the aforementioned value, because such expenditures at current store prices are rather modest. This value has gained a few percentage points, which may indicate that the poorest Poles save even more than a year earlier – summarizes Robert Biegaj.
