The Polish leasing market is on a path of steady growth. Considering the value of new financed investments, it maintains the 5th place in Europe. The first market in Europe remains the United Kingdom, followed by Germany, France, and Italy. This is according to the data for 2023 just published by Leaseurope, an organization bringing together European leasing and rental company associations, which consist of about a thousand leasing companies. In 2023, companies affiliated with the Polish Leasing Association (ZPL) financed investments worth over 100 billion PLN for the first time – under leasing agreements and loans.
– We maintain a strong 5th position in Europe and 1st position in Central and Eastern Europe. This is not surprising, as since 2005, the leasing market has grown more than sixfold: from 16 billion PLN of financed assets in 2005 to 102 billion PLN in 2023. Last year, the industry broke the barrier of 200 billion PLN value of all assets in use by over 1 million customers. The total value of investments financed by leasing in 30 years is an amount of 1 trillion PLN , says Monika Constant, President of the Polish Leasing Association. – Entrepreneurs trust us. Almost 50 percent of GDP in Poland is generated by sectors with a high share of leasing in investment outlays. Leasing, with its 30-year presence in Poland today, is one of the key elements of the country’s economy, she adds.
What’s more, compared to other European countries, leasing in Poland is an exceptionally popular service, the market penetration index of leasing is the highest and is 45 percent, with an average in Europe of about 28 percent.
As reported by Leaseurope in 2023 the value of funds leased amounted to 448 billion euros, or almost 11 percent more than in 2022. The portfolio of assets in leasing (remaining to be repaid) in Europe is approaching 1 trillion euros and at the end of 2023 amounted to 976 billion euros (an increase of 4 percent.) Most national leasing markets reported growth, and over half of them had double-digit growth in 2023 compared to the previous year.
According to Leaseurope data, vehicle financing leads the way on most markets, including Poland. Cars accounted for 73 percent of all leased assets in Europe, and leasing and rental companies provided financing of about 331 billion euros in 2023.
