COMPANIESPKP CARGO provides protective programs for workers in the railway industry

As part of protective measures in the restructuring process, the management board of PKP CARGO has already signed 8 letters of intent to ensure employment for workers being laid off. In total, thanks to the signed agreements, it is possible to employ over 1500 employees of PKP CARGO in other railway companies. All of these programs are already being implemented or will be initiated in the coming weeks. For more than three months, the Board has been taking all actions aimed at repairing the difficult financial-market situation that the company, which is currently heavily in debt with disproportionately high costs compared to revenues, found itself in due to mistakes made by previous management. Keeping in mind the welfare of employees at risk of being laid off, the Board of PKP CARGO S.A. is continuously in talks with entities that could potentially employ these workers.

“We are fully aware that employee restructuring, which means parting ways with several thousand people, is not pleasant. It is not a situation any party desires, but unfortunately we are forced to conduct repair measures – the company’s situation demands this,” said Dr. Marcin Wojewódka, acting President of the management board of PKP CARGO in restructuring, to eNewsroom.pl service. “However, with the realization that we have very experienced, valuable employees and knowing that they possess unique skills, we want to do everything we can to ensure those who unfortunately have to leave us find employment in their respective sectors as soon as possible. In order to achieve this, we are gradually searching for attractive job placements for them in companies within the sector. Therefore, we are signing letters of intent between PKP Cargo and, for instance, PKP Intercity, PKP PLK, Remtrak, WARS, Polregio, etc. These agreements guarantee a fast recruitment path for our employees into these companies. In other words, we are facilitating the process of finding new jobs – we do not leave people high and dry, we provide safety nets. At present, we are guaranteeing over 1500 job vacancies. We hope that in the near future we will be able to boast that more than 2000 positions are waiting for our former workers. It’s a unique solution – I don’t know of any other case in Poland where an employer behaved in such a way. This is exactly what we call corporate social responsibility. It’s not about making attractive leaflets or boasting on a website – but truly being capable of assisting those who unfortunately have to leave us in such a difficult situation. And the best way to help is by giving them an opportunity, if they wish, to find employment in other companies in the railway sector,” emphasized Dr. Marcin Wojewódka.
