At the end of April, 1.143 million foreigners were registered for pension and disability insurance, including 763,000 Ukrainians, according to data published by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS).
Ukrainian citizens remain the largest group of foreigners legally working in Poland. However, it is important to note changes in the dynamics of their registrations with ZUS. Analyzing annual data on the share of Ukrainian workers in the total number of employed foreigners reveals a slowdown in the growth of individuals registered with ZUS.
“In light of the amendment to the Ukrainian law on mobilization and the suspension of consular services for Ukrainian men aged 18 to 60 living abroad, a limitation in the growth of new workers from Ukraine is expected,” says Nadia Kurtieva, an expert from the Confederation of Lewiatan.
“Ukrainian citizens play a significant role in the Polish labor market, filling staffing gaps in various sectors of the economy. Therefore, determining their legal status is crucial, especially in the context of restrictions on obtaining travel documents for men abroad,” adds Nadia Kurtieva.
The most foreigners registered for pension and disability insurance at ZUS at the end of April came from Ukraine – 763,000, Belarus – 133,000, Georgia – 26,000, India – 21,000, and Moldova – 14,000.
