ORLEN is joining the international association Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC). The organization aims to accelerate the decarbonization of the oil and gas sector by strengthening industry cooperation and knowledge sharing. By joining the organization, the ORLEN Group will support its principles, which align with the strategic objectives of the corporation. These objectives include achieving climate neutrality by 2050 in areas 1 and 2, reducing methane emissions (zero venting) and eliminating routine flaring by 2030, and significant investments in energy transformation. The cooperation announcement took place during the ongoing international climate summit COP29 in Baku, featuring the participation of Afgan Isayev, the head of the OGDC steering committee and vice president of SOCAR.
“Joining the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter is a reflection of our commitment to the energy transformation of our country and region. The goals pursued by the organization align with ORLEN Group’s policy regarding decarbonization and minimizing the impact of this activity on the climate. Progressive climate change is one of the most significant challenges of our time, which requires decisive and focused action. Together with other major industry partners, we will undertake active efforts to reduce emissions as part of our ongoing operations,” said Artur Osuchowski, Director of Energy and Energy Transformation at ORLEN.
The OGDC initiative brings together the world’s largest companies responsible for 42% of global hydrocarbon production. Among them are BP, Shell, TotalEnergies, Eni, Repsol, OMV, Equinor, Aramco, Adnoc, ExxonMobil, Petrobras, and Petronas.

The corporation is speeding up investments in zero and low-emission generation sources, improving the effectiveness of current assets and investing in carbon dioxide capture and transport infrastructure. By the end of the decade, the ORLEN Group aims to achieve 9 GW of installed capacity in Renewable Energy Sources (RES). In addition to onshore wind and photovoltaic farms, the corporation is also actively developing offshore wind energy. The Baltic Power project, carried out in partnership with Canadian partner Northland Power, will add nearly 1.2 GW of power to the national energy system by 2026.
