On Wednesday, July 17, the modern Bell-407 GXi helicopter landed on the helipad next to the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow. This is the latest acquisition of the Lesser Poland police, which will be used for patrolling, searching, and other operational tasks.
The purchase of the helicopter was possible thanks to the EU project “Safer on the roads – aerial traffic control,” co-financed by the Cohesion Fund within the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Program 2014-2020.
The Bell-407 GXi is equipped with advanced technological systems which make it highly effective both day and night. The helicopter has an aerial observation system with an optoelectronic head, an image recording and transmission system, and a controlled dazzling spotlight. Thanks to additional fuel tanks, the unit can cover a distance of about 700 km and stay in the air for over 3.5 hours.
The new helicopter will be used for various tasks, including patrol flights, search operations, securing mass events, and VIP visits. It will play a special role in monitoring the situation on the roads where, together with traffic policemen, it will respond to dangerous behavior of traffic participants, and will also participate in operations against illegal races.
