The investment group Neo Energy Group (NEG), which holds one of the largest portfolios of green energy investments in Poland, is strengthening its position in the renewable energy market. The holding, through its investment company, has acquired a portfolio of projects developed as part of the Zgorzełecki Energy Cluster (ZKlaster). The transaction involves the acquisition of 100% shares in Special Purpose Companies (SPC), which are developing renewable energy projects with a total capacity of almost 1.5 GW. The NEG organization will also be joined by a team of specialists responsible for the success of the largest projects in the Zgorzełec area, such as Sulików 1, Sulików 2, Olszyna, and Siekierczyn.
The acquired portfolio includes investments at a very advanced stage, which will be finalized by the current team. The transaction includes solar farm projects with a target capacity of 1079 MW (including 15 MW already in operation), wind farms (101 MW), and energy storage (282 MW). The system has been developed over the years by local investors and will generate over 1 million MWh. It can meet the annual energy demand not only of the entire Zgorzelecko district but also a significant part of Lower Silesia. The power supplied by renewable energy sources passing into the hands of NEG can cover the consumption equivalent to up to 200,000 households.
“I am glad that we were able to finalize the transaction with Neo Energy Group, the largest player in the Polish renewable energy market. We can say that we are joining forces with our “neighbors” as NEG also conducts investments around Zgorzelec and is very familiar with the local specifics. From the beginning, we wanted our projects to remain in such hands,” emphasizes Albert Gryszczuk, the current main shareholder.
The projects (already in the new ownership structure) will still be developed within the Zgorzełecki Energy Cluster. The potential, based on years of good relationships with the local community and local government, allows us to think positively about their further development as well as new investments.
“I congratulate both sides of the transaction and I am proud that some of the largest renewable energy projects in Poland are being developed in ZKlaster. The role of the energy cluster is to create a suitable environment for investors, in cooperation with local governments, and this is perfectly successful. The ultimate model of the cluster, based on local balancing of demand and energy production, also matters. This has a positive impact on the economy of projects by eliminating recent cases of disconnecting renewable energy generators from the state power system,” points out Agnieszka Spirydowicz, the President of ZKlaster.
The Zgorzelecko district, according to many experts, has a very high potential for the development of renewable energy, not only thanks to favorable terrain but also a well-developed infrastructure and the presence of a strong energy node – Mikułowa.
The energy transformation of Lower Silesia requires the connection of new stable sources with high power. They are to be provided by the projects acquired by NEG. The proposed mix was selected to meet the demand for electricity and considering the potential of the area. The main goal was to ensure balance and stability of energy supply in the network of the private local distributor Neo Dystrybucja.
The Neo Energy Group, operating for 20 years, is part of a holding that has been actively operating in the renewable energy sources market since 2004. The holding is also a leader in the development of projects related to energy storage and sells investments at various stages of advancement.
NEG develops about 4.5 GW of renewable energy projects and has signed connection agreements for 1000 MW of wind farms, 1000 MW of PV farms, and 700 MW of energy storage. It is also an operator of renewable energy sources and sells the energy produced to the network. Additionally, as the owner and operator of one in four landfill biogas installations in Poland, it produces over 75% of the electricity produced from all installations of this type in our country.
The company carries out a number of investments for both large industrial companies and SMEs, and also cooperates with local governments throughout Poland. The holding actively expands its portfolio of photovoltaic installations.
“The acquisition of renewable energy projects, which ZKlaster has so far had under its wing, significantly strengthens our portfolio and confirms the leading position of the holding in the green energy market. This is also another one of the very large market transactions that we have to our credit. Only in the last six years, we have completed work and carried out, among others, a transaction for the sale of the largest photovoltaic farm project in Poland. We also acquired and completed the development of wind projects in Człuchów and Drzeżewo with a target capacity of 300 MW, which we sold in 2022,” says Piotr Beaupré, president of the Neo Energy Group. “With each step, we are getting closer to achieving the ambitious goals we set for the Neo Energy Group, not only in the development of wind and photovoltaic farms but also energy storage and innovative hybrid projects. Our investments help achieve energy independence and consistently build a sustainable and green energy future for Poland”- adds Piotr Beaupré.
The value of the transaction has not been disclosed.
