The Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed game publisher, Movie Games S.A., has released its Q3 2024 report, indicating a net revenue of over PLN 11 million from product and service sales and an operating profit of over PLN 4.4 million. In total, Movie Games has sold 5 million copies of its games.

The company’s success is mainly attributed to the excellent June premiere of Drug Dealer Simulator 2 (DDS2), the sequel to the 2020 hit. Revenue from DDS2 sales in the 5 months since its premiere is 44.5% higher than that of DDS1. The series has sold over 1 million copies in total, while add-ons for DDS2 are in development, including the upcoming Casino DLC and a spin-off of the first part, DDS x Narcos, licensed from the famous Netflix and Gaumont series. DDS2 was invited to participate in the Steam sales as one of the featured games of the event, while DDS1 was frequently promoted on the main page of Steam – the world’s largest game distribution platform. These achievements are impressive, especially considering they’re based on sales on only one distribution platform. The DDS series will also be released on console platforms.

This week, Movie Games released a new trailer for the Casino DLC and announced the involvement of a character portrayed in the series by Pedro Pascal in DDS x Narcos. This was part of the regular DDS Madness event, a promotion to boost the series’ sales. The publisher has several big events in store for 2024, including the key Steam Autumn Sale and Steam Winter Sale. At the same time, work is continuing to launch DDS1 on the Xbox console, and further efforts are being made to increase the DDS IP presence on consoles.

“The releases of game titles and additions from the DDS series are not only significant in terms of revenues from these games, but also as events that subsequently activate our existing portfolio. Each new release provides the opportunity to create new sets and stimulate sales of older titles. We are taking advantage of this fact, developing our brand as a publisher on Steam, setting our sights on entering the console market, and building our communities on Discord, Steam, and social media. At a time when the entire gaming market is experiencing a downturn, and even loudly advertised, widely advertised AAA titles are delivering disappointing results, such a stable situation for a publisher, especially an indie one, is rare. This is due to a high level of commitment to the development of our IPs, producer care for the creators we work with, and constant marketing engagement even in our smallest games,” comments Mateusz Wcześniak, President of the Board of Movie Games S.A.

Record earnings for Movie Games were also influenced by a full return on porting costs for the game Alaskan Road Truckers to Xbox and PlayStation consoles, along with numerous promotions and sales cyclically organized by the marketing department. New discount strategies are being tested, and marketing costs have been reduced by focusing on internal competency development in areas such as PPC advertising, previously carried out with partners.

Upcoming releases in the Movie Games group include the full version of the retro-style action game Beyond Sunset, currently available in Early Access and receiving very positive reviews, the premiere of updates and additions to Alaskan Road Truckers and a boxed version of the game for PlayStation 5, and premieres of DDS2: Casino DLC and DDS x Narcos. The production of a game with the working title Road Truckers 2 is also underway, while external partners are implementing Lust of God, as well as console versions of DDS1 and Brewpub Simulator.
