The current Country Manager of EDP Energia Polska will also take on the management of EDP Renewables in the Polish market. The appointment to the position of Country Lead for EDP in Poland strengthens the group’s strategy, which aims for business integration, synergy of corporate actions and commitment to Poland’s energy transformation.

EDP, a global leader in energy transformation and one of the largest foreign investors in Poland, entrusted Ireneusz Kulka with the comprehensive management of EDP companies in Poland, starting from November 18.

Ireneusz Kulka, who began working in the energy sector in 2008, has managed EDP Energia Polska, a provider of solar energy solutions for companies, for over three years. Ireneusz Kulka was chosen due to his experience and knowledge of the Polish renewable energy market, which will enable him to effectively direct the strategic development of the company in Poland and support the country’s energy transformation. Previously, for several years, Ireneusz Kulka was associated with the Polish telecommunications sector.

In addition to representing EDP in legal, financial and institutional matters, Ireneusz Kulka will also manage EDP Renewables, combining this role with his current duties in the Client Solutions area, for which EDP Energia Polska is responsible.

The Country Lead, who will take over the management of all areas of EDP’s operations in Poland, strengthens the company’s commitment to local market development. The integration of EDP Renewables, the company responsible for the development and operation of large-scale RES projects, and EDP Energia Polska, will achieve synergy effects and more effective management of operations.

“Accelerating the energy transformation in Europe, we strive to combine the strengths and knowledge of our Polish branches under one leadership. The position of Country Lead will enable us to realize a coherent vision of the development of renewable energy sources, streamline operations and respond more quickly to market needs, both through large-scale RES projects and photovoltaic solutions aimed at business customers. This approach strengthens our influence and fits into EDP’s ambition to be a leader in the area of sustainable development, increasing the efficiency and flexibility of our operations in Poland”, emphasizes Duarte Bello, President of EDP for Europe.

“The Polish renewable energy market faces serious challenges, especially in terms of long-term processes for obtaining permits and connection to the grid. Despite the fact that EDP has already implemented projects in Poland with a total capacity of over 1 GW, we continue to drive forward and plan to continue being part of the energy transformation, building a solid, long-term project portfolio and supporting both Polish companies and communities. We want to strengthen our image as a credible and financially stable partner. I am convinced that EDP will maintain its position as a key player in the Polish market and a reliable partner for our suppliers, system operators and customers, creating conditions for lasting relationships and sustainable development”, says Ireneusz Kulka, Country Lead for EDP in Poland.

EDP began its operations in Poland in 2007 through EDP Renewables, and expanded its operations in 2020, creating EDP Energia Polska. In 2022 EDP acquired two Polish companies specializing in photovoltaic solutions – Soon Energy Poland and Zielona-Energia.com, thereby strengthening its position in the market. Over the years, EDP has proven its commitment to Poland’s energy transformation, building and developing clean energy projects with a capacity of over 1 GW, representing an investment of more than 7 billion zlotys.

Currently, the company has 0.6 GW of capacity in operation in large-scale RES projects in Poland, and through EDP Energia Polska, it has contracted 239.4 MWp in decentralised solar energy. In the distributed generation sector, EDP provides dedicated photovoltaic solutions to companies, responding to the diversified needs of customers. From the start of operations until December 2023, EDP Energia Polska has contracted 152 MWp in solar projects, strengthening its position in the Polish photovoltaics market.
