The health and beauty category recorded the largest growth in turnover, at 11.3%. The clothing and accessories category, significant for shopping centers, increased its turnover by 4.5%.

“The increase in turnover of tenants operating in shopping centers in August 2024 was higher than the increase in retail sales in current prices for all trade, as per the Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) data. While turnover in shopping centers grew by 4.4% compared to August 2023, overall retail sales increased by 3.2%. This confirms the conclusion from the GfK study on ‘The Scale of Omnichannel in Shopping Centers,’ which indicates that shopping centers and retail parks are a key shopping destination for Poles, where they spend over 60% of their shopping budget. We also closely monitor the trend in the clothing and accessories category, in which turnover in shopping centers grew in August by 4.5%, while GUS data indicates that total retail sales in this category saw a decrease of 14.9%,” says Marcin Klammer, Managing Director of the Polish Council of Shopping Centers.

“August data from PCSC shows that the multifunctionality of shopping centers ensures their customers’ diverse shopping needs. A diverse range offers business stability and results in good results for the holiday period, higher than last year. Shopping centers behave slightly differently than the market measured by GUS, and higher turnovers do not necessarily mean inflationary increases, but simply higher demand. It is difficult to deduce this from these data, but it is worth being optimistic,” evaluates Przemysław Dwojak, Senior Client Business Partner at GfK – An NIQ Company.

The conversion rate for all tenant categories in shopping centers, i.e., the average customer expenditure per single visit to the gallery, was 6.5% higher in August 2024 than in August 2023.

Shopping center footfall (PCSC Footfall Density Index), measured by the number of customers per 1 sq.m. of rental space, was 0.2% higher in August 2024 than in August 2023.
