Hydrogenium P.S.A, a company belonging to NewConnect listed group hiPower Energy, has signed a contract with the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev. The aim of this collaboration is to develop an innovative pilot installation for processing biomass. The company is already conducting theoretical and experimental research, the results of which will enable the design of an efficient high-temperature demonstrator of a steam-oxygen gasification system for sunflower husks and other biomass waste. The launch of this project is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
“We see tremendous potential in biomass, which increases with the progression of the energy transformation process and the need to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the energy mix. The demand for biomass will continue to grow, so we have decided to start activities leading to the creation of an innovative pilot installation that will significantly increase the scale of biomass production from sunflower husks. We are already conducting research to determine the optimal parameters for an efficient, high-temperature steam-oxygen gasification installation,” said Maciej Ganczarski, Managing Partner of Hydrogenium P.S.A.
The theoretical and experimental research on the innovative demonstrator is being conducted at the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev. The research will also continue at the Hydrogenium P.S.A. Research and Development Center, which is being developed in the vicinity of Pulawy.
The first stage of the research project includes the acquisition of data necessary to design a prototype installation. The scientists’ aim is to determine optimal operating modes for a production installation with a capacity of 1,000 kg of sunflower husks per hour. The result of the work will be the creation and launch of an innovative installation with increased efficiency in processing biomass waste, which will become a key element in the development of sustainable energy technologies. The planned completion and launch of the installation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
On June 3, 2024, the hiPower Energy group, listed on NewConnect, entered into an agreement to acquire 30.30% of shares entitling them to 30.30% of votes in Hydrogenium P.S.A. This company owns the IP of biomass gasification technology in a plasma environment, over which research and analysis have been conducted for over 20 years. During this time, a solution was developed that allows for very high conversion of biomass to synthesis gas, which can be used for the production of green hydrogen.
This groundbreaking technology allows for economical and mass production of hydrogen from a wide spectrum of different types of biomass. The synthesized gas produced can be converted into methanol or other e-fuels or used in the production of green chemicals for the chemical industry, enhancing the versatility of the innovative technology.
