In September 2024, compared to September 2023, banks granted fewer loans to micro-entrepreneurs, both in quantity (-13.7%) and value (-11.5%). In terms of number, banks granted fewer loans of all types: investment loans (-40.2%), working capital loans (-22.9%), and current account loans (-14.1%). A negative annual growth rate was recorded for two types of loans in terms of value: working capital loans (-21.7%) and investment loans (-3.1%). A symbolic increase in value concerned current account loans (+0.2%).

Sales of Loans to Micro-Entrepreneurs according to Credit Products

In the first three quarters of 2024, compared to the same period last year, banks granted fewer loans to micro-entrepreneurs (-3.1%), but for a higher amount (+0.4%). The only positive growth in this period was reported for investment loans, albeit only in terms of value (+16.3%). Interestingly, the highest negative growth rate was also recorded for investment loans (-28.0%) in terms of quantity. A decrease in both number and value was recorded for current account loans at -11.0% and -8.6% respectively, as well as for working capital loans with -4.9% and -3.5%.

Loan Portfolio Quality for Micro-Companies according to Credit Products

The September 2024 reading of the Micro-Entrepreneurs Loan Quality Index in terms of value stood at 5.51%, still at a safe, acceptable level. Compared to August 2024, the overall Quality Index worsened (increased) by +0.39. However, over a 12-month period (compared to September 2023), the overall Quality Index improved (decreased) by -0.13%.

Sales of Loans to Micro-Entrepreneurs According to Industries

Of the 11,300 loans granted to micro-entrepreneurs in September 2024, 5,600 were taken by service companies (49.4%) and 2,500 by trade companies (22.2%). Together, these two sectors accounted for 71.6% of all loans granted in September 2024.

Of the total amount of PLN 1.708 billion, banks granted PLN 689 million (40.3%) to micro-entrepreneurs conducting service activities and PLN 385 million (22.6%) to trading companies. The financing of these two sectors in September 2024 accounted for 62.9% of the total value of loans granted to micro-entrepreneurs.

In September 2024, a negative year-on-year dynamic in the number of granted loans applied to the financing of all four sectors: trade (-19.0%), production (-11.2%), construction (-9.9%) and services (-12.5%). In terms of value in September 2024, compared to September 2023, the negative dynamic related to loans for companies from three sectors: trade (-22.7%), production (-22.2%), and also services (-5.7%). Only the construction sector noted an increase (+3.1%).

In the first three quarters of 2024, compared to the same period last year, a negative dynamic in the number of granted loans occurred in all four sectors.

Loan Portfolio Quality for Micro-Entrepreneurs by Industry

According to BIK Quality Index readings, the worst (highest level of indicator) loan repayments in September 2024 were made by manufacturing firms (6.51%) and construction firms (5.60%).

The best (lowest) reading in September 2024 was made by the Quality Index of trade sector companies, which stood at 5.12%. Compared to September 2023, the Index improved (fell) only in trade (-0.76). It worsened in the other three sectors: the most in manufacturing (+0.50) and in construction (+0.19).
