Breakthrough in the Race for the White House?

POLITICSBreakthrough in the Race for the White House?

The U.S. presidential debate, as expected, gave an advantage to one of the candidates in an exceptionally close race for the presidency. Clear differences were evident between this debate and the one in June, after which Biden withdrew, and Harris became the new Democratic candidate. Harris demonstrated her advantage over Trump, and her chances of winning increased on PredictIt from 53% to 56%. She particularly excelled in addressing tariffs and racial issues, underscoring the strength and effectiveness of her arguments.

The debate also spurred an increase in donations to the Democrats, further boosted by Kamala Harris’s endorsement from Taylor Swift, which could attract more women and young voters. Trump’s potential reluctance to face another debate, proposed by the Democratic Party, could suggest an attempt to avoid confrontation, further strengthening Harris’s position.

Harris’s rise in popularity could impact various sectors of the economy. Stocks related to cryptocurrencies and energy may face challenges as markets adjust to the changing political dynamics. Other investment opportunities, known as the “Trump trade,” such as a weaker Chinese yuan or defense-related stocks, could lose value as Harris gains momentum. It is still difficult to assess how the market will react to investment areas more aligned with Harris, especially given the uncertain outcome in the Senate and the prospect of full Democratic control. A divided Congress could mean limited fiscal spending, maintaining the risk of a recession in 2025.
