On December 12, 2024, American Heart of Poland (supported by Gruppo San Donato Italy and GKSD Investment Holding), operating within the public healthcare system, finalized the acquisition of control over Scanmed Group. The group comprises over 30 medical facilities, including four multi-specialty hospitals, three specialty clinics, cardiology departments, and a network of primary healthcare and outpatient specialist clinics.
This acquisition marks a milestone in the development of American Heart of Poland (AHP) as part of its long-term strategy to support the growth of the public healthcare system in Poland. AHP aims to expand its presence in new locations and new medical specialties, focusing on treating diseases associated with an aging population. Through the acquisition of Scanmed Group, AHP will nearly double the scale of its operations, significantly improving patient care quality under the National Health Fund (NFZ). This will be achieved by coordinating care across hospital treatment, rehabilitation, diagnostics, outpatient specialist care, primary healthcare, and preventive programs. Additionally, AHP will significantly expand its territorial reach, offering medical care to nearly 900,000 patients annually. As a result, AHP will manage facilities in 48 cities across 13 provinces in Poland.
For patients, this means better access to high-quality coordinated care, particularly NFZ programs such as KOS-infarction, which are supported by inpatient rehabilitation in the Ustroń Health Resort. The acquisition also enables a complementary medical service offering, covering nearly all medical branches. Notably, AHP plans to make extensive investments in public hospital infrastructure over the coming years, ensuring local communities have access to world-class medicine provided free of charge under NFZ insurance.
“Our mission is to increase accessibility and quality of medical services for patients under NFZ. With the acquisition of Scanmed Group, we can better meet patients’ needs by coordinating treatment processes across our facilities nationwide,” said Adam Szlachta, CEO and CFO of AHP Group.
Approaching its 25th anniversary, American Heart of Poland has been steadily increasing the number of facilities under its management. Since 2022, AHP has managed the hospital in Drawsko Pomorskie, and since 2023, the multi-specialty hospital in Sztum. The acquisition of Scanmed Group marks another significant step in the realization of AHP’s growth strategy.
