Amazon has launched a new logistics center in Gorzyczki (Gorzyce municipality, Wodzisław County), while also celebrating its 10th year of operations in Poland. This is Amazon’s 11th facility in the country and the 3rd in the Silesian Voivodeship. Amazon will create over 1,000 permanent jobs within the first year of operation. The total area of the logistics center in Gorzyczki is 211,000 m².

Gorzyczki: A Strategic Transport and Logistics Hub

Gorzyczki is a key location in the region, situated near the Czech border and benefiting from the A1 motorway, which forms an important transport hub in the northwestern part of the country. The location of the new logistics center allows Amazon to manage its transport network efficiently – distances between individual facilities do not exceed 2-3 hours of driving, ensuring quick and efficient order processing. Moreover, the center includes an integrated maneuvering area and a parking lot for 82 trucks, making it the first Amazon building in Europe with such significant logistics potential.

The opening of the distribution center in Gorzyczki marks another important stage in Amazon’s development in CEE. The new center will not only enhance our logistics network in Poland but also in neighboring European countries, contributing to faster deliveries and more efficient order processing for Amazon customers in the Central and Eastern European region, said Tomasz Michalski, manager of Amazon’s logistics centers in Gorzyczki and Bielany Wrocławskie.

– The investment areas in Gorzyczki, due to their proximity to the state border and the motorway junction, are among the most attractive in the southern part of the Silesian Voivodeship. I am pleased that the Gorzyce zone and municipality are being chosen by both global business giants and local entrepreneurs. Alongside the newly opened logistics center, local entrepreneurs and thriving family businesses are preparing their investments. The full launch of the new industrial zone will result in additional budget revenues, enabling the Gorzyce municipality to carry out further investments that are crucial for residents, such as infrastructure, recreational, and educational projects. The opening of the zone will also create many new jobs, which is very important in the context of demographic changes in our county and voivodeship. Therefore, in connection with the investment, I have asked the Wodzisław County head to introduce new educational programs in our post-primary schools, commented Daniel Jakubczyk, mayor of Gorzyce municipality.

Specialization – “Large Products”

The Gorzyczki facility mainly handles “non-sortable” orders, such as large and non-standard products like furniture and garden equipment. These are products that cannot be automatically sorted on conveyor belts. This is the second such center in Poland, with the first located in Bielany Wrocławskie.

On the Road to Sustainability

The efficiency of Amazon’s operational buildings and the equipment within them plays a significant role in achieving its climate commitment to net-zero carbon emissions across all operations by 2040.

Thus, the logistics center in Gorzyczki has also been designed according to the highest environmental standards. The facility has received a BREEAM sustainability certificate at the “Excellent” level, the second-highest rating in this system. The certification is recognized as a testament to modern, sustainable architecture and exemplary building management.

Additionally, the logistics center is equipped with 14 electric vehicle charging stations available to employees, business partners, and visitors.

STEM Kindloteka – A Tribute to Science

Alongside the opening of the new logistics center, Amazon has established a STEM Kindloteka in the nearby Godów Municipal Public Library. This modern educational space is part of a program implemented by Amazon in cooperation with the Cyfrowy Dialog association and the Zaczytani.org foundation. The facility is equipped with Kindle readers, tablets, educational robots, and other technological tools aimed at promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education among children and youth. This project, aligned with sustainable development goals, creates a creative space for learning and skill-building, supporting the development of local communities and Amazon employee volunteerism.

We are excited to open the 97th Kindloteka in Poland, a place that fosters reading development and STEM skill-building among children and youth. This is made possible not only by the wonderful educators in libraries across the country but also by workshops – such as DIY and story therapy – regularly conducted by Amazon volunteers in their local Kindlotekas. We hope these initiatives will become an excellent way for residents of Godów and surrounding areas to spend their time productively, said Barbara Krystosiak, project manager for social projects at Amazon in Central and Eastern Europe.

The STEM Kindloteka is equipped with tools, devices, and books that enable educational activities, such as coding and robotics workshops, based on the STEM method.
