On 23 September, Dr. Alan Beroud – CEO of PKP S.A. and PKP Group, was elected by the General Assembly of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) as the Vice-Chair of this organization.

The statutory meetings of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) took place on 23 September, on the eve of the International Transport Technology Fair InnoTrans in Berlin. The General Assembly of CER confirmed the decision of the organization’s Board made in July and unanimously elected Dr. Alan Beroud – CEO of PKP S.A. and PKP Group, as the Vice-Chair of CER. The Berlin fair will also be an opportunity for bilateral meetings of PKP Group representatives with representatives of other organizations affiliated with CER.

During the meeting, the discussion covered the most important issues related to the organization’s work, the election of association authorities, current initiatives undertaken by CER, budgetary issues, and the current situation in the railway sector. Topics related to the challenges facing the entire sector were also addressed: related to the multiannual EU financial framework, ticket sales, promoting the employment of women in the railways, or connections between rail transport and the development of tourism. The meeting’s agenda also includes the discussion of issues related to the establishment of the new European Parliament and the future European Commission, also in the context of reports on the EU economy and strategic postulates presented by CER on behalf of the industry before European institutions.

The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies is the most active railway organization in Brussels that cooperates daily with the PKP Representation in Belgium and experts from PKP companies. CER brings together about 70 railway companies, national associations and railway infrastructure administrators, which represent the railway industry’s interests before EU institutions. Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways) has been a full-fledged member of CER since 2002 and actively participates in the CER’s work at both the working level with expert participation and at the political level, undertaking a number of pro-rail initiatives.

CER’s strategic goal is to promote the development of railways as an essential action to create a sustainable transport system. The most important priority in this regard for CER is to achieve a more sustainable modal split in the transport system, that is, to increase passenger and cargo rail transport compared to other means of transport.
