The Foreign Expansion Fund, managed by PFR TFI S.A. of the PFR Group, and VIGO Photonics S.A., a global leader in photonics, have established cooperation on financing the foreign acquisition of a Polish technology company. The fund provided financing for VIGO’s purchase of assets belonging to the American company InfraRed Associates, Inc., one of the leading manufacturers of infrared detectors. The transaction is a key element of VIGO’s geographical expansion strategy, while also strengthening the company’s position in the global high-tech sector. It is another foreign expansion project for a Polish company carried out under the Team Poland formula.
The transaction, valued at USD 8.4 million, is a major part of VIGO’s strategy to expand geographically and reinforce its position in the high-tech sector. The assets of InfraRed Associates were acquired by VIGO Photonics Corp., the U.S. subsidiary of the Polish photonics leader. VIGO Photonics’ partner in the project is the Foreign Expansion Fund 2 FIZ AN, which is providing financing. The project also involves PKO Bank Polski and KUKE, which is providing guarantees for the financing granted by both the fund and the bank.
“I am proud that, as the PFR Group, we can play a key role in implementing such an important transaction that supports the international expansion of Poland’s technology sector. This investment proves that Polish companies can successfully compete on the global market while building strategic partnerships and strengthening the position of our economy. This project is particularly important to us because it is the first foreign project carried out under the Team Poland formula to involve a business partner, PKO Bank Polski. We hope this marks the beginning of a long-term and fruitful cooperation with a bank that, like us, actively supports the international expansion of Polish enterprises,” says Piotr Matczuk, President of the Management Board of the Polish Development Fund.
“Today, it is no longer about individual transactions, but about the ability of the Polish economy to build lasting advantages in global value chains. The scale of investment can trigger a new development cycle, but its success depends on the real participation of Polish companies. Financing the expansion of VIGO Photonics shows that Polish capital is capable of supporting advanced technologies and going global. The role of banks today is not only to provide financing, but also to create conditions for the growth and competitiveness of companies,” says Szymon Midera, President of the Management Board of PKO Bank Polski.
The acquisition of InfraRed Associates’ assets, from a company generating stable and strong revenues, is part of VIGO’s strategy, which includes expansion in the U.S. market. It is also an important step in achieving VIGO Photonics’ long-term goals of increasing sales, diversifying revenue sources, and strengthening its position in the industrial and military sectors that are most important to the company.
“The acquisition of the assets of a U.S. entity will significantly increase our revenues in that market, but financial matters are not everything. Having a production facility in the United States is crucial to meeting the requirements for supplies to the U.S. defense sector. For VIGO Photonics, defense has been one of the most important sectors for years. This transaction is one of the key elements of the company’s long-term strategy. It is also a very important step that will allow us to fully utilize our production capacity and bring us closer to our goal of transforming VIGO into a global company,” says Adam Piotrowski, President of the Management Board of VIGO Photonics.
Founded in the 1970s, InfraRed Associates is a recognized global manufacturer of liquid nitrogen-cooled (LN₂) detectors. The company primarily operates in the U.S., Asian, and European markets. InfraRed Associates’ offering complements VIGO Photonics’ core business, and its products are delivered to customers in the industrial, scientific, and military sectors.
“The investment with VIGO Photonics is another example of the Foreign Expansion Fund fulfilling its mission of supporting Polish companies in their global growth. Financing this investment not only strengthens VIGO’s position in the strategic U.S. market, but also opens the door to key sectors such as defense and advanced technologies. We are convinced that this project will make a real contribution to strengthening the international competitive position of the Polish economy and will serve as a showcase for Polish innovation worldwide,” says Piotr Dmuchowski, President of the Management Board of PFR TFI.
The transaction will contribute to the growth of VIGO Photonics’ consolidated revenues. At the same time, it will enable the development of key technological and business competencies, strengthening the company’s position in the global supply chain.
This transaction is an example of a well-considered expansion of European capital into the U.S. market. VIGO Photonics is not only extending its presence into new markets, but also strengthening economic and technological cooperation between Europe and the United States.
