Ukraine has firmly rejected the peace terms put forward by Vladimir Putin, which call for the formal recognition of Russian control over Crimea and the occupied parts of Donbas. Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, stated on Thursday that Kyiv will not agree to any deal that involves handing over Ukrainian territory, emphasizing that the constitution prohibits the president from ceding the country’s land. “As long as Volodymyr Zelensky is president, such a document will not be signed,” Yermak added.
On Thursday, Vladimir Putin reiterated that a prerequisite for a ceasefire is the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the areas claimed by the Kremlin. The Russian president described this as the “basis” for any talks. The following day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared that “entering into any agreements with Ukraine is completely unnecessary,” suggesting that Moscow currently sees no room for meaningful negotiations.
