The Future of the Job Market until 2030 – Which Professions will Prosper and Which will Disappear?

CAREERSThe Future of the Job Market until 2030 - Which Professions will Prosper and Which will Disappear?

Technological changes, economic uncertainty, demographic shifts, and green transformation are major factors that will shape the job market by 2030. How should we prepare for the upcoming changes? Which skills will be key? Which professions will gain importance, and which will disappear in the coming years? Check it out and get an edge in the job market.

The year 2024 was a year of opportunities for candidates who showed commitment, openness to learning and change, and experience and knowledge in specific fields. “Low unemployment, talent shortages, a continuous departure of workers from Ukraine, restrictions on sourcing and employing workers from the Far East, as well as ecological, social, and technological shifts, are creating a multitude of opportunities in the job market”, emphasizes Ewelina Glińska-Kołodziej, Operational Director of Trenkwalder Employment Agency.

And what will the job market look like in the next five years? According to the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs Report 2025”, the job market will be driven by such macro trends as technological changes, economic uncertainty, demographic shifts, and green transformation. These trends will influence job locations, desired candidate skills, and the employment strategies that employers will need to implement in order to adapt to the upcoming changes.

The most transformative global trend will be increased access to digital technologies in areas such as artificial intelligence, data processing, robotics, automation, and energy production, storage, and distribution. According to a report by the International Federation of Robotic, the robotic density value for Poland stands at 78 with the global average being 162.

“Historical low labor costs did not require quick automation, but the rise in minimum wage and overall labor costs in Poland means this trend will be reversed, not only in manufacturing processes. Market analyses show that wages grew by about 10% last year, mainly driven by significant increases in minimum wages. Salary increases can also be expected in 2025, but they will certainly be lower. We forecast that this will be an average increase of about 7%,” says Ewelina Glińska-Kołodziej.

Geopolitical tensions, trade, and investment restrictions with countries such as the United States and China may push employers towards outsourcing or reshoring their operations. Mitigation of climate change is a another critical transformative trend that will heighten environmental management and drive demand for jobs in this area.

There are also notable demographic changes. We are witnessing an aging society and a decline in the number of people of productive age, mainly in higher-income countries (including Poland).

At the same time, the number of people of productive age is increasing in lower-income countries. This will lead to a higher demand for labor in the health and social care sectors in developed countries and in education in less developed countries.

Economic slowdown and inflation are expected to transform the operations of 42% of businesses surveyed in the report, leading to job cuts. It is predicted that around 92 million jobs will disappear due to the structural transformation of the labor market, but about 170 million new jobs will also be created, resulting in a net increase in global employment of 7%.

The development of digital technologies, including AI and big data, means that the demand for technology-related skills is growing fastest. This includes areas such as programming, cybersecurity, and data analysis.

The geopolitical situation and economic uncertainty promote skills such as creative thinking, resistance to stress, analytical thinking, flexibility, and ability to quickly adapt to changes – these skills will be essential on the rapidly changing labor market.

An aging society and a skills gap in the labor market are driving demand for skills related to talent management, teaching, mentoring, motivation, and self-awareness.

“The shift in the job market is irreversible. Technologies, demographic changes, climate crisis – all these factors will influence the course of our careers. Investing in developing competencies, especially in technology and soft skills, will prove to be key,” says Ewelina Glińska-Kołodziej, Operational Director of Trenkwalder Employment Agency.

“The year 2025 will surely be dynamic, as will the years following it. Candidates need to get used to this dynamic, as their readiness for changes and constant learning will be valuable and a way to secure satisfying employment,” adds Glińska-Kołodziej.
