COMPANIESTarczyński Develops Multi-Protein Preparation from Peas and Sea Algae with NCBR Funding

Tarczyński is working on a groundbreaking multi-protein preparation derived from peas and sea algae. The project has been selected for funding by Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), receiving a grant of over PLN 37 million.

Introducing innovative solutions has long been a key element of Tarczyński’s operations and development strategy. Currently, the company is developing a multi-protein preparation designed as an alternative to animal-based proteins. This new product is a response to the evolving preferences of food consumers, including the growing demand for snacks that support healthy eating habits.

Following the research phase, Tarczyński plans to independently manufacture a blend of proteins sourced from peas and macroalgae. The resulting product – with a structure similar to that of meat – will offer unique nutritional and health-promoting properties. The goal is to create a preparation that helps reduce the risk of diet-related diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Additionally, the preparation is expected to enhance the umami flavor profile of deli meats.

“The eco-friendly extraction of proteins from peas and algae, developed by our technologists, is an innovative concept on a global scale. Producing a high-protein plant-based product with a meat-like structure remains a challenge for the market, but it appears to be an inevitable direction for industry development in the context of sustainability. Systematically increasing the share of plant-based protein sources presents a real opportunity to reduce the carbon footprint of meat processing,” said Dawid Tarczyński, Management Board Member and Director of Development at Tarczyński S.A.

The newly developed protein preparation will become an ingredient in a new line of Tarczyński brand meat and plant-based kabanos sausages, reaching consumers not only in Poland but also worldwide.

“Thanks to the high content of non-animal protein, the products will have a positive impact on consumers’ health by providing highly digestible proteins with a health-promoting amino acid profile. They will serve both as a daily dietary supplement and support the body during recovery. The new preparation will contain amino acids, taurine, and peptides with proven antihypertensive, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties, making it a natural, alternative foundation for the development of health-promoting foods,” said Kamil Wawrzyniak, Management Board Member and Director of Technology, Research, and Development at Tarczyński S.A.

The project has been placed on the National Centre for Research and Development’s funding list, receiving a grant of PLN 37.8 million, with a total project value of PLN 98.8 million.
