Taiwan has sharply raised its GDP growth forecast for 2025 to 7.37%, the government statistics office said on Friday. This would be the island’s fastest pace of expansion since 2010 and a clear jump from the 4.45% projection released in August.

The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics also revised its estimate for third-quarter GDP growth up to 8.21% from an initial 7.64%. According to experts, the island’s economy is being powered by record export growth in products linked to artificial intelligence technologies.

AI Boom Pushes Exports to Historic Levels

Taiwan’s economy is benefiting from a surge in global demand for semiconductors, servers and AI infrastructure. Exports to the United States jumped by as much as 144.3% in October, reaching an all-time high.

Officials emphasize that Taiwan now plays a pivotal role in the global AI supply chain. “As long as companies continue to build AI infrastructure, demand for Taiwanese tech products will remain strong,” said Tsai Yu-tai, director of statistics.

TSMC Sets Sales Records as Chip Sector Leads

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest chipmaker and a key supplier to Nvidia and Apple, reported record monthly sales in October of 367.47 billion TWD, an increase of 16.9% year-on-year. In the first ten months of 2025, the company’s revenues rose by 33.8%.

Analysts point out that Taiwan is now at the centre of the global race to develop artificial intelligence. Bumki Son of Barclays described the new forecast as “a significant positive surprise”, suggesting that the island could be the fastest-growing emerging Asian economy in 2025.

Bright Outlook Also for 2026

Taiwan’s statistics office also raised its GDP growth forecast for 2026 from 2.81% to 3.54%. The agency now expects exports to grow by 6.32% that year, well above the previous estimate of 2.19%.

The revision has eased concerns about the impact of the 20% tariff introduced by Donald Trump on Taiwanese goods in July. Most technology products — including chips, smartphones and servers — were exempted, which has limited the economic fallout of the new measures.

Experts caution that growth could slow to single-digit rates if demand for AI hardware begins to stabilise. Even so, Taiwan remains one of the biggest beneficiaries of the global artificial intelligence boom.
