Poland’s August data came in below expectations: industrial output, retail sales and wage growth disappointed, while inflation accelerated. mBank economists argue this is not yet the start of a sharp slowdown, which may become more visible in early 2027 as higher energy and fuel prices squeeze real incomes.

Consumer inflation in Poland increased to 3.4% year on year in August 2026, according to a flash estimate from Statistics Poland. The reading was higher than the market consensus of around 3.1%. Prices rose by 0.4% month on month. Fuel stood out as the strongest contributor, with prices 24.2% higher than a year earlier and 5.2% above July levels. Inflation is now only 0.1 percentage point below the upper limit of the National Bank of Poland’s target range.
Poland’s GDP increased by 3.9% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, according to Statistics Poland’s preliminary estimate. The figure was revised up by 0.1 percentage point from the earlier flash estimate. More important than the headline number was the composition of growth. Gross fixed capital formation accelerated sharply to 8.4% year on year, while household consumption growth eased to 2.8%. Net exports also made a positive contribution to economic growth.
Poland plans to increase the corporate income tax rate from 19% to 22% from 2027 for companies with annual revenues above EUR 50 million and for tax capital groups. Economists estimate that the measure could generate around PLN 8.6 billion a year and largely finance planned PIT relief. The reform, however, could also reduce corporate profitability, affect stock-market valuations and investment, and will do little to address Poland’s underlying fiscal deficit.
