Scanway S.A. is expanding its cooperation with Nara Space Technology, one of the leading players in South Korea’s New Space sector, for the third time. The Wrocław-based company will deliver two additional optical Earth-observation instruments for the NarSha project, South Korea’s first satellite constellation being developed to monitor methane emissions.
The new order increases the overall scope of cooperation between Scanway and Nara Space to four optical instruments. It also confirms Scanway’s ability to deliver advanced optical payloads repeatedly for satellite constellation projects.
The new agreement covers the delivery of two further flight models of optical Earth-observation instruments, each comprising two telescopes.
- The total value of the new order is EUR 1.28 million, equivalent to EUR 640,000 per optical instrument.
- The expansion follows the delivery of the first flight model to Nara Space in early June 2026.
- The first instrument was developed following approximately two years of research and development work and airborne testing, which confirmed the functionality and performance of the telescopes.
- Scanway is now prepared to process the current order and potential future orders more quickly as Nara Space develops the NarSha constellation, which could eventually grow to several dozen satellites.
“The further expansion of our cooperation with Nara Space Technology in South Korea is a very important signal for our prospective customers. It confirms that Scanway is becoming a partner capable of successfully supporting constellation projects through repeatable deliveries,” said Mikołaj Podgórski, Chief Operating Officer of Scanway S.A.
“The delivery of the first flight model in early June concluded around two years of R&D work and airborne testing that confirmed the functionality and performance of our telescopes. As a result, we are now ready to deliver further flight models much faster, moving towards serial production and the ability to support constellations of several dozen satellites in the coming years.”
Podgórski added that Nara Space is one of several constellation projects currently being carried out by Scanway, each with the potential to generate a similar volume of future orders.
Two further instruments for methane monitoring
The latest order represents another expansion of Scanway’s cooperation with Nara Space Technology under the NarSha project. The Polish company will supply two additional flight models of optical Earth-observation instruments, each consisting of two telescopes capable of imaging in visible and infrared wavelengths.
The instruments will support methane-emissions detection as part of Nara Space’s developing satellite constellation. Delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027, while the launch of the mission using the instruments is planned for early 2028.
The cooperation between the two companies now covers four optical instruments for the NarSha project. The first flight model was delivered to Nara Space on 8 June 2026. The second instrument is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026. The new agreement, covering the third and fourth instruments, further increases Scanway’s involvement in South Korea’s first methane-monitoring satellite constellation.
NarSha constellation to include at least 12 microsatellites
The NarSha project is being developed by a consortium led by Nara Space Technology and involves the construction of a constellation of at least 12 microsatellites. Its objective is to identify methane-emission sources quickly and accurately, initially in South Korea and potentially in other markets in the future.
The consortium includes Nara Space Technology as project leader, the Climate Technology Center of Seoul National University, the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, and Scanway S.A.
“NarSha clearly illustrates how the Earth-observation market is changing. Increasingly, the focus is no longer on a single instrument or a single mission, but on building systems capable of regularly delivering high-value data to end users,” said Mikołaj Podgórski.
“Methane-emissions data may be highly relevant for public authorities, industry and institutions responsible for environmental action. Collecting such data from orbit makes it possible to monitor large areas in a repeatable and scalable way. For Scanway, it also confirms that our optical capabilities meet the needs of customers developing specialised satellite constellations.”
Scanway targets serial production for the global New Space sector
The expanded cooperation with Nara Space Technology forms part of Scanway’s strategic direction: accelerating its transformation into a serial supplier of optical payloads for the global New Space sector.
The company aims to increase the scale of deliveries to constellation customers by developing optical instruments for specialised Earth-observation missions. Projects such as NarSha underline the growing demand for solutions that can be deployed repeatedly across successive satellites and future stages of constellation development.
About Scanway
Scanway S.A. is a Polish technology company operating in optoelectronics, image analysis and optical-data processing. It develops solutions covering image acquisition, processing, analysis and the use of data to forecast events.
The company operates in two core segments: Space and Industry. In the space segment, Scanway designs and supplies optical instruments, including telescopes and cameras for satellite applications, as well as analytical solutions for Earth observation from orbit. In the industrial segment, it develops image-data analysis systems used, among other applications, in automated quality control and Industry 4.0 solutions.
Scanway has developed complete optoelectronic products for Earth observation from orbit. Its solutions have been used in Polish and European space projects. The company operates the STAR VIBE observation satellite.
In 2024, the Scanway Camera System was included aboard the inaugural flight of Europe’s Ariane 6 launch vehicle. The company also supplied the approximately 10 kg SOP200 telescope for Poland’s EagleEye satellite.
Scanway S.A. debuted on the NewConnect market in October 2023. On 27 March 2026, the company’s shares were admitted to trading on the Main Market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
