President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia launched around 36 missiles and nearly 600 drones at the capital and the Kyiv region. According to him, the main targets were energy infrastructure and civilian buildings.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down or disabled 577 airborne threats, but 35 drones and numerous missiles struck 22 locations. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that falling debris damaged residential buildings.

Half a Million People Without Power

According to the Ministry of Energy, more than 500,000 customers in Kyiv were left without electricity. An additional 100,000 households in the Kyiv region also lost power as a result of the attack.

Among the injured is one child. Emergency services are working to clear debris and restore access to electricity.

The bombardment came one day after the conclusion of the second round of Ukrainian-U.S. talks in Switzerland, during which officials discussed a revised version of the peace plan. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the meeting as constructive and noted progress.

This was the second major attack on Kyiv within several days. On Tuesday, Russia killed seven people in another series of strikes, which Ukraine’s foreign minister Andriy Sybiha called part of a “campaign of killing and destruction” carried out by the Kremlin even as ceasefire talks were underway.
