COMPANIESRed Square Games Enters the Board Game Industry – New License, New Team, and Big Plans Ahead

Red Square Games, a developer and publisher listed on the NewConnect market, has signed a licensing agreement with Board and Dice Sp. z o.o. The agreement covers the Polish language localization and distribution of the board game Windmill Valley, which will carry the title Wiatrakowo in its Polish version. The license has been acquired for a period of three years and is not geographically limited. The company has also decided to strengthen the team with Bartosz Chlebicki and Łukasz Damięcki, co-founders of the newly established board game publishing house Gramatury S.C. The publisher of the Polish language version of the game will be Red Square Games.

“This is an important step for us in the development of non-digital games area. Windmill Valley in the Polish language version will be published by our company, and the cost of producing the ordered game batch amounts to 18 thousand EUR. The agreement gives us significant opportunities in terms of testing the market and building our position in this dynamically growing industry,” says Krzysztof Wolicki, President of Red Square Games. “The board game sector is part of our long-term strategy. We have been talking with Bartosz Chlebicki and Łukasz Damięcki since last year, as a result of which they have just joined our team. I am glad that together we will develop the board game sector in Poland. Eventually, we want to release several dozen titles over the next two years. Board games have a shorter production period, so they have more frequent launches,” adds Krzysztof Wolicki.

The new team members have been associated with the board game industry since 2014, since then they have worked for well-known publishers. In RSG, they will guide the non-digital games department, whose aim is to localize interesting foreign board games for the Polish market. Plans include the release of at least several dozen board games over the next two years. The company’s first premiere for this year – planned for March – is the board game with Polish title Wiatrakowo (orig. Windmill Valley). Players will take on the role of entrepreneurs and tulip plantation owners.

“The board game sector in Poland, in our opinion, has great potential. This is favored by player behavior, the desire to build relationships, as well as issues of availability. Our business steps in recent months have allowed us to build solid foundations for today’s actions. It is worth remembering that we have gained full rights to create a board game in the universe of the Bailiff series of books by Michał Gołkowski. We also cooperate with the French board game giant, Asmodee, in terms of digitizing one of the most recognizable IPs in the board games industry,” adds Krzysztof Wolicki.

The board game market in Poland has been developing at an impressive pace in recent years. It is estimated that in 2023 its value reached the level of 400-500 million zlotys. Data indicate that about 5 million copies of board games are sold in Poland each year, and the value of the market is growing on average by 10-15% per year.
