INVESTINGPolish Parliament Fails to Override Presidential Veto on Crypto Regulation. Tusk Warns: Russian Criminal Groups Are Penetrating Poland’s Cryptocurrency Sector

The Sejm on Friday failed to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of a bill regulating the cryptocurrency market. A total of 243 MPs voted in favor of re-adopting the legislation, and 192 voted against — well short of the required three-fifths majority (276 votes) needed to overturn the veto. The vote followed a heated debate in which Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused Russian criminal networks of infiltrating Poland’s crypto industry.

The session had an unusual format: part of the proceedings was held behind closed doors under a secrecy clause. During that classified segment, the prime minister presented MPs with materials on illegal operations carried out in Poland’s digital asset market.

In the public portion of the debate, Tusk revealed that the Katowice tax chamber has identified hundreds of entities linked to Russia, Belarus, and other former Soviet states. According to the prime minister, one of the key companies operating in the sector is allegedly financed from Russian sources — a firm whose name he disclosed during the classified part of the session.
