Monthly Decline Masks Stronger Underlying Momentum
Compared with April 2026, sold industrial output declined in 22 of the 34 industrial divisions. Growth was recorded in 12 divisions, led by other transport equipment, up 41.0%; beverages, up 9.0%; paper and paper products, up 6.0%; and other non-metallic mineral products, up 4.9%.
The divisions that recorded a month-on-month decline accounted for 76.8% of total sold industrial output.
The unadjusted monthly fall should therefore be interpreted cautiously. Seasonal adjustment points to a different picture, with industrial production rising by 1.4% month on month in May. This suggests that, despite uneven results across individual branches, the broader industrial sector continued to recover.
