The Polish premiere of the latest Mercedes-Maybach model – the SL 680 Monogram Series – took place at the Kubicki Arcades in the Royal Castle in Warsaw. This model is touted as the sportiest Maybach in history. “The number of orders placed in the system indicates that the new car is attracting significant customer interest,” the brand representatives emphasized. Poland is the second-largest market for luxury Maybach cars in Europe.
“The latest Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is the first SL variant from Maybach. We have been eagerly awaiting this car. Since 2022, we have been producing the current generation SL, but exclusively in the AMG version, which is more geared towards sports driving and travel. However, we have a group of customers who expect total luxury from their cars, including convertibles. The Mercedes-Maybach released this year fills that gap,” says Mariusz Sekuna, Product and Pricing Manager for Central and Eastern Europe at Mercedes-Benz Poland.
The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is the sportiest model in the brand’s history. It stands out with its unique combination of colors and materials both inside and out – the bodywork and cabin share common Maybach pattern accents. Classic designs are paired with modern elements. Contours of the chrome radiator grille are illuminated, the characteristic bonnet decorated with vertically arranged Mercedes star and a chrome strip running down the middle. There is an option for an obsidian black cover with a graphite-gray, non-metallic Maybach pattern. The application process is complex and partly conducted by hand.
Comprehensive measures ensure quiet and comfortable travel, typical for Maybach. Those include a noise-optimized exhaust system, extensive insulation, comfort-oriented suspension, and soft engine mounts.
“Interest in convertibles is increasing because the technology is changing. Convertibles used to be associated with cars covered with a thin tarpaulin, which were very cold and noisy. Now the technology has greatly changed, we have panel roofs covered with material, usually multilayered, as in the case of the SL Maybach. Not only do we have a very high level of travel, but we also have silence. At the same time, the car looks from the outside as if it had a fully soft, canvas roof, which is a classic solution for convertible-type cars, the most elegant,” explains Sekuna.
The combination of a four-liter biturbo engine with a power of 430 kW (585 HP) and a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission with an appropriately adapted acceleration pedal characteristic ensures dynamic driving. The fully variable all-wheel drive increases driving safety, as does the standard trailable rear axle, which combines maneuverability and stability.
“In the SL 63, we have several driving modes, and most of them are geared towards sports driving. In the SL Maybach, we have only one Sport mode, as well as Comfort and Maybach modes. The latter is designed to ‘soften’ all gas reactions in the car, so that travel is as smooth as possible. In Maybach mode, the car always starts in second gear to ensure that the considerable engine power is translated on to the road as gently as possible so that passengers experience the greatest comfort even when accelerating in such a powerful car,” says the representative from Mercedes-Benz Poland.
In 2024, Mercedes-Benz achieved double-digit sales growth in virtually all segments, focusing on top-end models, which include sporty Mercedes-AMG cars, super-luxury Mercedes-Maybach models, the S Class, EQS, GLS, and G Class. The number of registrations totaled 4,124 units, accounting for nearly 16% of the brand’s sales. Last year, Poland was the second-largest market in Europe, after Germany, for Maybach and the S Class, with 690 units sold.
“There is a very high interest in luxury cars in Poland, especially under the Maybach brand. Poland is one of the most dynamic markets in terms of sales of S-Class Maybach, Maybach GLS. The fully electric Maybach EQS and the Maybach SL, which attracts a lot of interest as indicated by customer contact with dealers and the number of orders placed in the system, have also been added to the lineup,” Sekuna says.
During the Polish premiere of the car at the Kubicki Arcades, visitors could see the collection of works by David LaChapelle, a surrealist photographer and artist known for his extravagant photos of the world’s biggest stars. LaChapelle co-created three original works in cooperation with Maybach, inspired by the most influential artistic movements of the early last century: cubism, futurism, and surrealism. The collection was first presented during last year’s Design Week in Milan. Afterwards, the pieces went to the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection and are shown on various occasions worldwide.
“Maybach is associated with art,” assures the expert, “[During the event] we have art presented in the form of pictures, clothing elements and accessories. The Maybach boutique offers sunglasses, clothing – in many cases these are clothing pieces available only in one copy globally. So our works of art, from cars, through pictures, to clothing, are present in many elements.”
