PlumResearch, a Polish startup specialising in audience measurement data for media and streaming platforms, has been acquired by Ampere Analysis, an international analytics company operating in the media, entertainment and technology sectors. As part of the transaction, the company’s existing investors, Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder and Montis Capital, are exiting the business.
Founded in 2015, PlumResearch developed its own technology and methodology for measuring audience data across streaming platforms. Today, the company provides information to clients in more than 75 markets. Its services are used by global film studios, broadcasters and talent agencies, including Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery.
Polish startup built a position in streaming analytics
PlumResearch’s business model is based on detailed measurement of content consumption on streaming services. Such data is important for media companies because it helps them assess the popularity of productions, analyse viewer behaviour and make decisions about content investment, distribution and programming strategy.
Łukasz Jeziorski, co-founder and CEO of PlumResearch, emphasised that the company had built its own technology, a patented data collection methodology, a broad research panel and a team of specialists. In his view, combining PlumResearch’s data with Ampere Analysis’ expertise will help clients make better-informed decisions in the entertainment and media market.
The acquisition by Ampere Analysis means that Polish technology will become part of a broader global analytics platform. For PlumResearch, this may provide access to a larger client base, wider research resources and further product development opportunities in international markets.
Ampere Analysis strengthens its streaming measurement capabilities
Ampere Analysis says the acquisition of PlumResearch is important for the further development of its offering in audience analytics and the streaming market. Richard Broughton, Executive Director at Ampere Analysis, said PlumResearch’s approach to streaming measurement combines innovation with practical application for media clients.
According to Ampere Analysis, the Polish company has built not only technology and analytical tools, but also the trust of some of the largest players in the global entertainment industry. Access to reliable data and its interpretation is now one of the key areas of competition in the streaming platform and content production market.
Exit for Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder and Montis Capital
The transaction marks an exit for Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder and Montis Capital. PlumResearch was created within Red Sky, a startup studio based in Szczecin. Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder was the company’s first investor and supported it through subsequent stages of development, including strategy, product development, fundraising and international expansion.
Michał Wrzołek, Senior Investment Director at Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder, said the acquisition of PlumResearch by Ampere Analysis confirms the value of the technology and organisation built by the company’s team. For the fund, it is another example of a Polish technology startup being sold to a global player.
Montis Capital also invested in PlumResearch in 2020. Michał Gawęda, Partner at Montis VC, noted that the company’s development demonstrates the potential of Polish technology firms in specialised niches of the global market. In his view, PlumResearch has grown from a Szczecin-based startup into a tool used by the largest Hollywood studios.
Another Polish technology company sold to a global player
The exit from PlumResearch fits into a broader trend of acquisitions of Polish technology companies by international firms. Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder points out that other companies from its portfolio have previously been acquired by global players, including RemoteMyApp by Intel and Primetric by BigTime.
For the Polish startup ecosystem, the PlumResearch transaction is significant for several reasons. First, it shows that Polish teams can build products for highly specialised segments of the global market. Second, it confirms the growing importance of data and analytics in the media and entertainment industry. Third, it is an example of a venture capital exit from a project developed from an early stage.
The acquisition of PlumResearch by Ampere Analysis may strengthen the buyer’s position in streaming analytics while giving the Polish company an opportunity to continue developing within a larger international organisation.
