The ORLEN Group has received a high rating in an independent global environmental study conducted by the rating agency CDP. In the Climate category, the corporation scored a “B”, signifying a significant improvement from previous years when it was given a “D” grade. This significant jump in the ratings demonstrates that ORLEN, fully aware of its environmental impact, is taking effective measures to systematically minimize it.
The management of environmental and climatic impact is one of the most important issues of interest to investors, banks, and insurers. To properly assess the growth potential of a company, these institutions utilize, among other things, the results of independent research that points to the level of advancement of these entities in the field of sustainable development (ESG) concerning reporting and actual action in this area.
CDP is a platform that manages a global system of information gathering for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impact. It is recognized as one of the most credible rating organizations dealing with this topic. The ratings prepared based on this organization’s reports assess the transparency of disclosed data regarding: the impact of a given entity on the climate and the efforts made to mitigate its negative effects.
The “B” rating in the Climate category proves that ORLEN is fully aware of its impact on the environment and is taking coordinated environmental management actions. These actions contribute to mitigating climate change and decarbonizing its operations, in line with the ORLEN Group’s aspirations to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The improved assessment of ORLEN compared to previous years was made possible by full and faster greenhouse gas emissions reporting in all three scopes, setting and achieving ambitious decarbonization objectives, and implementing climate policy and effectively managing climate issues.
CDP applies an independent methodology to all reporting entities, awarding scores on a scale from “A” (highest) to “D” (lowest), based on the completeness of disclosed information, knowledge, and environmental risk management, as well as best practices in setting and achieving ambitious objectives.
The organization has a global environmental data database, obtained from nearly 25 thousand institutions worldwide, representing two-thirds of global market capitalization, and over 11 thousand local governments, which disclosed environmental information through the special CDP questionnaire.
