ENERGYORLEN Signs Annual Oil Supply Contract with Norway’s Equinor

ORLEN has signed an agreement with Norway’s Equinor for the supply of more than 6 million tons of crude oil from the Johan Sverdrup field, located on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The contracted volume will cover around 15% of the Group’s annual demand for crude. Deliveries will begin in September and will be carried out under the first annual contract signed with the Norwegian company.

Contract Details

The agreement has been signed for one year and provides for transport by tankers from the port of Mongstad. The crude can be directed to refineries in Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic. The oil will come from Johan Sverdrup, the third-largest field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, whose CO₂ emissions are 80–90% lower than the global average.

Strengthening Energy Security

“We are building the energy security of Poland and the entire region. We have fully eliminated Russian crude from all our refineries. This was possible thanks to effective diversification of supply sources. The next step is our first long-term agreement with Equinor, which gives us access to the highest-quality crude with strong production efficiency. Johan Sverdrup is one of the largest oil fields in the world, accounting for one-third of Norway’s total oil production. What is particularly important is that extraction at this field is carried out with significantly reduced CO₂ emissions, as platforms are powered by electricity from shore, mainly from renewable energy sources. We consistently rely on alternative supply sources, as this is the foundation of stable production and a guarantee of energy security,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the Management Board of ORLEN.

Partnership with Equinor

“I am very pleased that we are expanding our cooperation to include oil supplies from Johan Sverdrup in Norway. Together with ORLEN, we are building a long-term energy partnership that already covers oil and gas production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, a 10-year agreement for natural gas supplies to Poland, and cooperation in low-emission solutions such as carbon capture and storage. This agreement strengthens Poland’s energy security while also supporting our joint ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” emphasized Irene Rummelhoff, Executive Vice President for Marketing, Midstream and Processing at Equinor.

Diversifying Supply Sources

For several years, ORLEN has been actively investing in energy security. In June, the company concluded its last contract for oil deliveries from the east, meaning full independence from Russian crude. Currently, the Group’s refineries process oil from the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, the North Sea, Africa, and the Americas.

In the first half of 2025, ORLEN’s refineries processed a total of 9.8 million tons of crude, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.
