COMPANIESORLEN Signs Agreement with Amazon Web Services on Cloud, AI and Employee Training

ORLEN Group has signed a cooperation agreement with Amazon Web Services. The agreement concerns the migration of IT systems to cloud infrastructure and the development of new applications in a cloud-native model — meaning solutions designed from the ground up for cloud environments, with particular emphasis on scalability, resilience and rapid deployment.

Scope of Cooperation

The cooperation covers the implementation of solutions in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics. ORLEN will also gain access to specialist industry software from certified independent software vendors available through AWS Marketplace. These solutions are intended to support operations in the upstream and downstream segments, as well as in energy and retail.

One of the assumptions behind the agreement is the development of an IT environment based on a multi-cloud model — an approach that allows technologies from different providers to be selected flexibly and makes it easier to migrate systems between platforms.

“A key assumption of our cooperation with AWS is to strengthen our technological flexibility and gain access to ready-made, advanced solutions. The development of an IT environment in a multi-cloud model will allow ORLEN to migrate systems efficiently and choose the best technologies available on the market.”

Training and Certification

The agreement also includes a competence development programme for ORLEN Group employees. AWS will provide access to training, certification and technology workshops. According to the announcement, this is expected to help teams become more independent in designing, implementing and maintaining cloud solutions.

“Poland faces an extraordinary opportunity related to artificial intelligence, and ORLEN Group, as one of the largest energy companies in Europe, has the scale and determination to carry out a unique digital transformation. Our support is not only about technology — it is also an investment in the digital skills of the people who will implement and develop it.”

Strategic Context

The agreement with AWS forms part of ORLEN Group’s broader digitalisation strategy. At the same time, the company is carrying out projects related to the energy transition, while cloud migration is expected to increase operational efficiency and reduce the cost of maintaining IT infrastructure.

“This cooperation is another step in building ORLEN as a modern, digital organisation. We are investing in solutions that increase our business efficiency, accelerate innovation and strengthen the digital security of the entire Group.”

Robert Soszyński, Vice President of the ORLEN Management Board for Operations

The agreement does not specify the financial value of the cooperation or the timetable for the individual stages of implementation.
