ORLEN Neptun, a company within the ORLEN Group, has opened the first offshore wind installation terminal in Poland, located in Świnoujście. It is one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in Europe and will serve as a key logistics and operational hub for the second phase of the ORLEN Group’s offshore wind projects. The terminal will also be available for use by external operators. ORLEN Neptun has signed its first long-term lease agreement with Ocean Winds, a leading Spanish-French consortium and one of the largest offshore wind developers globally.
The new terminal will ultimately support the installation of dozens of wind turbines each year, positioning itself as the primary offshore wind installation center in the Baltic Sea region.
“The installation terminal in Świnoujście is another pioneering offshore wind investment in Poland. We are building a new and forward-looking sector of the economy. Offshore wind energy will not only supply clean and stable energy to households, transportation, and businesses, but it will also foster the development of new industrial sectors,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the ORLEN Management Board. “From our Świnoujście base, we will launch future offshore projects, with nearly half of the capital coming from Polish sources. We already have a contract with one of the global leaders, Ocean Winds, and agreements in place for the use of infrastructure to store turbine components. This investment is a tremendous development opportunity for the entire region and for Polish companies supporting the offshore wind industry.”
Designed for the Largest Offshore Wind Projects
The Świnoujście terminal will employ several dozen people and is engineered to handle the largest offshore construction vessels, such as jack-up and heavy-lift ships, needed for installing turbines with capacities around 15 MW. The terminal supports unloading, loading, and storage of key wind farm components, including monopile foundations, towers, blades, nacelles, and cabling elements. It is also equipped to handle the massive topside structures of offshore transformer stations, weighing up to 24,000 tonnes.
The terminal’s inland location ensures favorable weather conditions during operations, while its connectivity—via rail, ferry, air, and road—makes it highly accessible. It will primarily serve the ORLEN Group’s offshore wind projects, such as Baltic East, and future developments. It will also be available to operators executing projects in German, Swedish, and Danish waters.
“Our terminal’s advanced specifications make it attractive to European offshore wind operators. Over the next few years, it will be one of the few facilities in the region capable of supporting projects with 15 MW turbines. Interest is already high—on the day of the opening, we signed our first long-term lease with one of the world’s top offshore wind developers,” said Janusz Bil, CEO of ORLEN Neptun.
Long-Term Partnership with Ocean Winds
The contract with Ocean Winds covers the lease of almost the entire terminal for the construction of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm, located approximately 150 nautical miles (around 228 kilometers) from Świnoujście.
The terminal will handle the delivery, storage, and pre-assembly of foundations, which will then be transported to the installation site. Component loading onto specialized installation vessels will also take place at the facility. Local companies with international experience will provide port services and manage logistics.
“We are pleased to partner with ORLEN Neptun and to choose the Świnoujście terminal as a key link in the construction of the BC-Wind offshore project. This is a modern facility that meets all our technical and scheduling requirements,” said Kacper Kostrzewa, Managing Director of Ocean Winds Polska. “BC-Wind is our first project in the Baltic Sea and a concrete example of involving the domestic supply chain in our investments. We aim to build value with Polish partners and strengthen local capabilities in the offshore wind sector.”
Part of ORLEN2035 Renewable Strategy
The launch of the Świnoujście terminal is a significant milestone in the implementation of the ORLEN2035 strategy, which focuses on rapid expansion of renewable energy sources. The ORLEN Group aims to achieve 12.8 GW of installed renewable energy capacity within the next decade, including around 6.4 GW from offshore wind farms.
